Sarah Marshal is the best
I love this podcast. Sarah Marshal is so funny and smart. Her diverse topics and guest hosts keep me coming back for more. Sarah you are the best. Love your show.

OMG The Active Listening
Would LOVE to listen to more of this, but the hostās active listening detracts so much from the show and grates on my nerves so much that I find it difficult to focus on the guest. You can just sit silently unless you have actual words to say! Thereās no need to hum after every sentence the guest says. A great drinking game would be to take a shot every time she āhmmās, except that youād be obliterated after the first five minutes. Stop making that irritatingly unnecessary noise! We all assume youāre listening; you donāt need to audibly listen.

You Broke My Heart, Fredo
Sarah and Michael were a phenomenal duo and truly offered something unique and special with their content. The show has struggled without Michael but the last straw for me was when recurring guest Jamie Loftus used offensive language to convey antisemitic sentiment, immediately after Sarah called the podcast a āsafe space.ā I hope an apology was issued on the next episode. I will not be listening again.

The show meant to debunk misinformation spreads more of it
I used to love this podcast but have come to observe that they are casually antisemitic and itās revolting.

Listened for years, done with it
The casual antisemitism in the Paul Reubens bio is just too ā- much. Ms. Marshall, youāre wrong about Israel.

Surprising!
Sarah is smart, creative, and wildly witty. Each and every episode is like a top rated movie. Much prefer to learn about fascinating news topics from YWA than regular news outlets. Highly recommend!

Bad Journalism
The supposed expert on Pee Wee lost all credibility with me when she casually labeled Pee Wee's dad a war criminal for helping establish the Israeli Air Force in 1948. Is she aware of the Holocaust had occurred only three years before the Israeli Air Force was formed? And does she criticize every country for forming a military or just Israel? And does she know that immediately after its founding Israel was attacked by its neighbors requiring the establishment of a national defense system?
Pee Wees dad seemed like a great guy-he embraced his son's sexuality long before it was commonplace to do so, and I am certain if Pee Wee, whom the reporter claims love and revere, heard his father labeled a war criminal, he would have not have returned her esteem- and Sarah- you have to push back sometimes at this at best sloppy and inaccuate and at worst
Antisemitic reporting.

Antisemitism strikes again! Hypocritical ājournalismā
Unfortunately this is the second Sarah Marshall podcast that Iāve had to unsubscribe to because of the incredibly biased take of the host or guest. For someone who spent the first few minutes talking about the importance of journalistic research and then went on to take a very āblack and whiteā view of the incredibly complex and years long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, is hypocritical to the extreme. Jamie, please actually do your research before claiming that there was nothing worse than being a fighter pilot in the 1948 war. I feel bad for anyone who has fought for any countryās freedom and right to exist (and was injured, died or taken hostage as a result), being told that thereās nothing worse they could do than fight for their country (and for the future of the child whom you went on to talk about). You enjoy freedom in your country today because of the people that fought for it.

So much love for this podcast
Although I will always go back to the original Mike and Sarah episodes most fondly, especially the format and the deep research. I love that Sarah kept the pod going and is transforming it to allow others to share their deep dive knowledge. I love getting to hear from the you are wrong about community of friends and have returning voices on this pod and on You are Good. This podcast brings me such a sense of community and I have learned so much. It also allowed me to see that there are other Newsies fans out there that did not go to my elementary school .

Long live Paul Rubens
Thank you so much for the pair of episodes about Paul Rubens. Iām so grateful that there are other people out there that really appreciate his art and who he was. He is so beloved and itās so wonderful that you are sharing his story. The real one that isnāt entirely about the hard things he went through.

Yikes the bias
āNothing worse than thatā - Theres ānothingā worse than Jews winning a war in 1948? Nothing? Really, you can think of ānothingā than that?

Wow
Not sure how you can make an episode about Pee Wee Herman into antisemitic propaganda, but these ladies managed just fine. It was beyond unnecessary and very off putting. Long time listener done for good.

What does all of the charged anti Zionist propaganda have to do with introducing PeeWee Herman? It was a ridiculous infusion of the guestās personal opinions which had no reason to be in this podcast. The self indulgence and lack of facts was impossible to persevere through.

Insane take on Paul Reubenās father
Fighting for Israeli independence is the worst thing you could do?
Insane take. I would expect so much more from podcasters who consider themselves thorough researchers. Sad to have to unfollow, but like another listener mentioned, my jaw was on the floor. Shame.
Casual antisemitism strikes again.

Still my favorite
Iāve been an avid listener since 2020. Itās one of the few shows that I can go back and listen to again and again. I also believe half my references I make on a daily basis somehow stems from this show. If I could give it more stars, I would.

Antisemitic Garbage
I am disgusted that in the first few minutes of the Paul Reuben episode your cohost points out the so called shame of Paul Reubenās father participating in the Israeli air force, implying that Zionism is to be universally and inherently eschewed. This lacks nuance, consideration of history, and is all together besides the point of your episode. You have just taken time to highlight your antisemitic stance, and the shame is on you, for that.

Generally good
The podcast is generally interesting and informative. I was put off by the comment about Pee Wee's father...that fighting for Israeli independence is about the worst thing one could do? There is definitely room for disagreement about Israel and the Israeli government but I would expect that a well-informed reporter would have treated the subject with more nuance and differentiated between the founding of Israel and the current situation in Gaza. This was not the subject of the podcast but provided a major distraction.

Peewee episodeā¦
Iāve been enjoying this podcast for a few years now and finally decided to write a review. First I looked through some recent ones. Itās very disappointing to see some reviewers perpetuate the idea that criticism of the Israeli government, the IDF and zionism is antisemitic. Itās not. Criticizing a government, their military and the often violent ideology they believe isnāt antisemitism. Weāre not required to believe zionism in order to be jewish and many of us donāt. I could never believe an ideology that uses a religion (half of my familyās religion) to justify the subjugation and mass killing of an entire group of people itās been targeting for several decades. There is absolutely nothing that can justify such actions. Idk about anyone else, but I was raised to believe that ānever againā means never again for anyone. People sticking up for a far right, often violent, theocratic government and their military targeting a group of people is a slap in the face to that important phrase.
Anywho, Iāve loved this podcast for a few years now. The topics are always interesting and the discussions with the guests are always engaging. I love tuning in and learning something new.

My All Time Favorite
I have been a lover of YWA for years and am always touched by the way they tackle learning/relearning topics through the nuanced and empathetic lens. Itās wild how much comfort I find in listening to even the darkest episodes. I hope more people find it⦠def the sort of pod that you may stumble upon one episode thatās topic speaks to you and will need to hear more. *Also in contrast to other recent reviews, I believe the systematic murd3r of children is wrong and it shouldnāt be controversial to say.

Nice little antisemitism in the beginning of the episode of pee-wee Herman. LONG time listener. Never again.

So special
I love your podcast, Sarah Marshall. While I miss Michael, I love your rotation of guests, and you are reliably insightful, funny, and simply wonderful. Please podcast forever. I also adore the Tonya article that kicked it all off. Godspeed.

Came for peewee, got anti Zionism.
Just started listening, the. My jaw dropped while listening to the guest call an Israeli soldier a war criminal and the host laugh along with the idea that defending Israel is basically āthe worst thing you could do.ā
I mean, thatās a mouthful.

Nasty off handed anti semitic comments
The Paul Rubens part 1 episode was jarring when Jamie made incredibly anti semitic comments about Israel and Sarah went along for the ride. It was disturbing and has made me question listening to this podcast any more after years of loyalty. Not a good look at all.

Wrong about too much
I liked this podcastābut when you start discussing things that I personally lived through and was aware of, I tend to be pretty shocked at how shallow your research is. Youāre getting a lot wrong.
I listened anyway. Your rather thoughtless and throwaway characterization of Milton Rubenfeld was too much for me. Iām out.

Oy
Every now and again, I pop in to listen to your latest topic. I was SO saddened to experience antisemitism while listening to the Pee Wee episode. How about a ādeep diveā on whatās itās like to listen to young podcasters lazily employ inherent bias against a whole country?
elainenardo
Should be easy listening
I have liked YWA for a long time and caught up on a backlog really quickly when I first got into it. Lately, itās trying too hard to take itself seriously and doesnāt know its tone. Specifically, Sarah has such a calming voice/presence itās distracting when there are obvious audio volume issues. I am really frustrated by the amount of times I have to turn up and turn down, and frankly sometimes turning up doesnāt help me hear whatever she is muttering with the music over it or her microphones turned down or something.

Rating for latest episode (pee wee)
Pee-wee part one included some drive-by antisemitism from Jamie Loftus. Very disappointing and not the usual standard for this show (and consistent with some patterns from Loftusās own show, Iām told). Not okay, do better.

So Much for Nuance
Listen, Iāve generally liked the show, but for the hosts and cohosts to extol the virtues nuance and, in practically the next breath, call Paul Reubenās father a āwar criminalā because he flew for the newly founded state of Israel (per U.N. resolution 181) is misinformed and insulting to people who served in uniform.
For the minority of us who consider ourselves politically left-leaning moderates (yes, we exist), your tendency to make flippant comments like this is deeply troubling.
Do better.

Horrifying Antisemitism
As a long time subscriber and fan, I was horrified to hear the unabashed antisemitism in the most recent episode. I donāt know why this hate speech was relevant or necessary but it was a shocking and saddening departure from the shows typically empathic and inclusive tone.

I was definitely wrong
I was excited to listen to this podcast because I am interested in the lives of famous people like Pee Wee. This podcast was not that. After listening to a very long and glowing introduction about the cohost I thought ok now the story will begin. But no. I was wrong. I listened for 45 minutes of the two friends chatting. A true mutual admiration society. Occasionally Pee Wee would be mentioned but after 45 minutes I still had learned almost nothing about him. I gave up and will never listen to anything on this podcast again.

Dismissive
I lived through the horrific DC Sniper debacle and it was terrifying and traumatic. Our lives were upended not to mention the lives of those who were shot. Sarah Marshall makes jokes during this podcast and adds silly dismissive comments. Very disappointing and gross.

Consistently amazing
I love this podcast!!!! I found youāre wrong about through Blair Braverman #uglydogs and have since listened to the entire catalog. My favorite binges were the OJ Simpson episodes and the Princess Diana Royal Family deep dive. The array of topics are so versatile and yet every single one is interesting! I get so excited when I see I have a new episode- Sarah is mandatory listening. 5/5!!!!

Still love this podcast, but will Sarah ever finish the OJ series?
This show has changed a bit since I first started listening, but itās still one of my faves. I just wish she would finish the OJ series.
Bumblebee-bat
Zero research
Especially the later episodes have zero research. Itās like Sarah will have a guest on and say hey remember that very famous thing that happened? And thatās the extent of the episode. She doesnāt even read from Wikipedia, which would make for a lot better episodes than what they currently are.
