She dragged me in…
Katie’s Instagram and FB reels were/are compelling and entertaining at the same time and while I’d followed Who Did What Now” on the platforms, I hadn’t put it together that there was a podcast. Oof. I felt like an idiot. But Katie seems pretty forgiving so I drove in from the first episode and I am up to 101? 111? I’m getting through them, but the best part is that I know more now about European history. These lovely gentlemen at my house started picking up bits and pieces of the podcast while we were working on podcasts and now there is an outstanding request to wait so he can hear the newest episodes at the same time. I’m delighted I have about 100 more episodes to go before I run out and preemptively sad but there will be a time I have to wait week by week to catch the next one. Hopefully this comment is significantly “cheer inducing“ as I have meant to write this review numerous times now. Better late than never? I hope so. Despite a degree in global socioeconomic politics, I’m delighted (and equal parts horrified) to learn about elements of American history I thought I knew that I clearly didn’t fully understand. Thanks Katie! The lovely gentleman (and a large number of the friends to whom we’ve sent the podcast) and I are grateful you’re both doing the work keeping us fascinated while we go about our lives.

Binge worthy!
I stumbled upon this podcast recently, and I’m hooked! It’s the only one I’ve been listening to, and I’m so happy I discovered it. I’m excited about each episode and can’t wait to see what comes out next.

Best History Podcast
I love history and even have a degree in history. I’ve been enjoying this podcast so much recently after I discovered it right before I had surgery. My sister who couldn’t care less about history even enjoys the podcast. Having the best time going through old episodes!

Though the years
I have listened to this podcast on and off since early 2020 even on Google podcasts when that was a thing absolutely love her! Absolutely love her content and the way that she tells stories is beautiful. I told all my girlfriends about it and 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

Thank you
Thank you Katie for the wonderful job you do telling us about history. Thank you for doing the research, diving deeply into the background that lays out the factors behind the history being told. I write this review after having listened to multiple episodes and I have yet to find one I didn’t like. I especially like the sidebars! I found your podcast after seeing you on Facebook reels. Keep up the good work! Can you please do an episode on James Meredith and his acceptance to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi)? Or a combined episode of integration of schools? James Meredith, Ruby Bridges and the Little Rock Nine? Thanks again!

Dropping knowledge
It’s So nice to hear Fascinating stories from a beautiful voice. I’ve been listening to too many podcasts delivered with a California Vocal-fry. This’s a breath of fresh air.

I’m loving your show🩵
Did you know that until 2023 a woman could have a pelvic exam whist under general anesthesia without her consent in the US? We are in the bad place😔

Feels like chat with a friend about history
Yes at time she rambles but so do I and I love it! I get the information in a way that is less stressful. Like chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee not in a classroom being drilled by a college professor. I vote to keep the swearing because it is natural to you. Anything different feels rehearsed and pressured.

Love it!
I love this podcast. I found her on Facebook reels a few weeks back and have been obsessed since. I have listened to so many episodes already. She’s not boring. Doesn’t just read off facts to you. She breaks down the history and tells the story in a way that keeps you engaged. Yes she rambles sometimes so if you’re not into that then it might not be for you. I personally like the side bars, makes the podcast feel more like a conversation between friends. Also I love her accent and the sayings she has when she gets worked up. A lot of the phrases she’s uses are not things I normally hear in the US and I’m here for it. lol

Amazing and fun!
I found this podcast through TikTok originally when Katie was doing the pirates month! I’ve been listening non stop back through the catalog and it had been so interesting and informative! Katie is a great podcaster and I love how down to earth cool she seems and can’t wait to hear more stories! 10/10 recommendation!

From one reader of books to another!
I found you on Facebook and I am totally hooked on your podcast now! Love your sense of style, as well! I love the honest language too. You have made history more fun, whenever you can, and I have actually retained most of the facts you’ve shared.

Not my style
Too much chitchat in the beginning. You lost me after the first few minutes. I don’t care where your theme song came from. I don’t care about dressing in costumes. I want you to start talking and tell me the facts.

Do yourself a favor and listen
I came across Katie on Facebook and loved her videos on US politics. So I thought I’d check out the podcast. I was a little dubious as I came in at the end of pirate month and I have precisely zero interest in pirates. But I gave it a go and the episodes were ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING! This show is just so good! Seriously, do yourself a favor and enjoy this treat!

Love it
I’m interested in history but normally get bored. Love this take on history. Love how she avoids white washing and calls out the misogyny and racism.

An Irish Pirate story
I’m a new listener and really enjoyed this first episode.
As a history buff, I’m always looking for a “good story” and this series doesn’t disappoint.

Great, exuberant takes on history!
I’m totally enjoying Katie’s podcast with her straightforward assessments and storytelling. The cussing is artful, the sidebars are funny and relatable, and the stories get into details that make history more real. Please keep at it, Katie!

Loving Who Did What Now!
Just now discovering this in 2025… amazing! KC cracks me up! Also- I agree that Queen Consort is a tacky distinction to make. I can think of 3 categories of queen (consort, regina, and dowager but they’re all queens in their own right)

Fantastic history stories
Katie has this lovely energy that she shares with us when she tells her tales. She is wickedly smart, funny, and delightful. She covers a wide range of historical topics and does it with style and panache! I learn quite a bit while also being entertained.

Best history podcast
I love Katie and her energy and sass and dedication to covering a wide range of stories!! I have easily listened to 20 or so episodes in the two weeks that I’ve discovered her. I love the mini series on Henry the 8ths wives but I think Olga of Kyiv is my favorite so far! As an adhd’er who can stick to a single thing for more than 10 minutes, she keeps my attention!!

I’m so glad I found her
I love listening to her talk about history !!!
Alittle Disappointed
The absolute best!
I can’t believe it took me so long to find Katie, but I am binge listening my way through all the episodes. I love the humor and the delivery. However, my favorite part of this podcast is Katie’s detailed, humanistic approach on each topic. She gives so many misunderstood historical figures a voice and doesn’t shy away from the horrific misdeeds of history’s so called “heroes”.

Educational and Entertaining!!
Katie Charlwood is engaging, and covers interesting pieces of history, with many little “asides” during the episodes, making listening feel like you’re having a great conversation with a friend or coworker.

Wonderfully Witty
I never liked podcasts but Who Did What Now came up on my algorithm on my Facebook reels. I loved her facts and entertaining delivery so I checked out a podcast…. And now I’ve been listening to every episode I can find and it has been my hyper fixation for the past few days. I tried listening to other podcasts in between to see if I’m just a podcast person now. But nope I am just a Katie Charlwood person!!

What I’ve been looking for all along!
Ok, I’m new to “who did what now”, but I’m hooked and bingeing it like crazy! The content is so thoroughly researched, thoughtfully presented and Katie paints a picture in your mind with her incredible story telling ability with a great sense of humor and intelligent wit. Katie, thank you for this amazing podcast and telling REAL history that some of us are in danger of losing to authoritarian book bans and rewriting of history.
