Pretty good
Pretty good stuff but it tends to get cloyingly millennial in that particular way that happens when nerds try to seem cool

Important
One of the most important podcasts out there!

What are these advertisers???
I can’t give this show less than five stars because it is so good. But Enbridge and Amazon as advertisers? There must be someone else to get that Isnt actively destroying our planet and harming marginalised people.

Overproduced
Would be good but they’re doin too much. Scripted banter and a little too cute. U can just tell the story guys

Thorough!
Through line could also be known as, “Thorough Line” as your journalists leave no stone unturned to tell a full story. As a history buff, I’m always grateful to have more historical knowledge in my repertoire.

Bravo!!!
I learn more historical context from this show than any other, and it always has me captivated. Keep doing what you’re doing, y’all!

Once more: Rund, PLEASE, the Ts!
In the episode “War Crimes” Rund pronounced the word “court” dozens of times as “core”.
The same in the episode on “We the People”.
A small example:
“The Times wro (meaning wrote) that the decision, quo (meaning quote), will help persuade policemen that the core (meaning court) does not lie … “.
Why is so difficult to pronounce the Ts where they should be pronounced?
Please Rund, improve your speech. This wonderful podcast needs you to get better!
Here is what I wrote months ago, to no avail.
For the nth time I beg you Rund. Please pronounce the Ts in words where they need to be pronounced.
It’s not Supreme Core. It is Supreme Court.
It is not quow. It’s quote.
It’s not spore. It’s sport.
And so on and so forth.
It gets too distracting listening to someone missing required sounds in the English language. Please make an effort to enunciate your Ts.

Grossly biased, terrible sound quality
Unless you’re looking for clearly biased half truth ‘information’ and love to punish yourself with terrible sound quality, don’t bother.
There are plenty of other MUCH better podcasts, and many ways to better spend your time than w these two award winning ‘journalists’.

Good info but…
The topics are interesting and well covered, but they do this thing where they switch voices in the middle of sentences and it’s super annoying. In one episode, three different voices were used to cover one (albeit long) sentence. After a few episodes of that, I find it to be unlistenable.

Well done
I recently found this podcast and I’ve become a big fan. Well researched, interestingly presented, and often very topical. The tax collector episode is particularly wonderful. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Meh.
Pretty lightweight. Had to fast forward 17 min. To get to the actual topic! Too much banter.

Defund NPR
Can you imagine the blue-haired, Volvo-driven, gender fluid rage the consumers/producers of this content would radiate into the world if Fox News was publicly subsidized?

Great podcast different sound
I have listened to this series for a long time. It’s always an interesting viewpoint. I listened to the Motherhood episode with a different headset this morning. I noticed the background music was more intense and as loud as the narration. I found it distracting. Did you change the mix or is my new headset the issue?

Amazing
I love this podcast. The writing and research, along with the presentation is awesome. Every time I listen, I learn something new. Thank you for all you do.

Reward yourself and learn something about history
Every episode digs into a piece of history and amazing you with how history has many lessons for us today. The show makes me care about things I never thought I would.

I love the show Throughline!
Thank you for making this wonderfully interesting and well developed and thought provoking show. It gives a historical basis to things we thought we knew well. Thank you again.

Very well done.
Solid story telling - pulling history through the decades. Quite amazing production.

Very Biased
A lot of the episodes are awesome, but it is very pro Palestine and anti-Israel. I don’t really know enough of the FACTS to choose a side, but I don’t agree with the one sidedness of some of the episodes, that is NOT good journalism.

Great show! What is missing is what Covid didn’t do when millions were out of work consequently out of health insurance ! We Americans missed the opportunity to make a change.

Everyone should listen
It’s the best part of Thursday. Only podcast that makes me feel smarter having listened. The episode ‘Winter is Coming’ was especially good. I found myself crying at the end.

This is my favorite podcast on my way to work. It is the most informative podcast I have ever heard.

Engaged and thoughtful, and somehow deeply kind
I started listening with my kids way back when they were little and I’m still hooked! The hosts, the production, all generous, and thoughtful injecting, goodness into my day!
The Dirt Farm
Love it!
I have so so much respect for the people who make this podcast. I love how it focuses on a specific topic and dives into so much detail in a professional yet tangible way. Not only discussing the topic itself in our present day society but in its formation, its history, and its impact throughout. The fact that it also cites information, consults real experts, and is guided/hosted by professionals makes me feel a lot better about trusting this podcast too. Thank you again to those who make it possible!

Presidential Powers
The moral compass required to manage such powers appropriately is significant. Sadly, few have the compass. How do we get money out of the system? PACs, corporations and other interests seem to be subverting our government. What would need to be done to change the way Washington does business to better serve our society appropriately?
I will be listening and plan to support.

The best
Keep doing your show the way you're doing it. I appreciate the topics, perspective, critical thinking and overall production value. I saw some pretty weak, ignorant take downs from the reviews that upset me and make me feel protective of this wonderful work you do.

A podcast for the malleable.
Well produced propaganda…not for me.

Liberal garbage
The usual liberal garbage that owns most of today’s dying media industry. It’s honestly pretty funny to listen to for a bit. It sounds like they actually believe it.

Stop the noises
So much useless sound effects and fake music stuff in the background. Why? Can't listen to it.

Great topics …
Terrible hosts. Ignorant, poorly prepared, bad interviewers who miss obvious follow up questions, etc. I’ve tried to suffer through a few episodes because the topics were interesting but I finally gave up.
childish drivel
Great podcast
Fantastic but it does go in depth a bit so have some time on your hands; it hits deep sometimes.
Cole@andrus
Sound effects too distracting
The topics and hosts on Througline are great, but the background sound effects are WAY too distracting and make it unlistenable. They’re at a 15, and need to take it to a 3. Or better yet, stop it.

Not for me …
I only made it through four minutes — the overly dramatic intro backed by the schmaltzy mood music took me back to similar presentations in my fourth grade class. I have no doubt that the hosts of this podcast are brilliant professionals with a grasp of history much greater than mine. My suggestion and hope is that future podcasts will be targeted at the level of intelligent high schoolers. Please consider us as historically uninformed folks who are curious but not stupid. Thank you.

Ideological
It’s a good show but too political and biased for public radio. Weird bias towards Hezbollah and Iran-backed militias

Love this pod!
Finding this podcast through NPR has been such a gift to my brain. I love learning about history in ways that aren’t dry and lifeless. I appreciate the research, production, and humor of this show. Keep making work you all are proud of and ignore the grumpy, pompous reviewers. My message to them, if you don’t like it, go listen to a million other things. Go make your own show. Find something you do like and pour all that enthusiasm into hyping it up. I can’t imagine loathing anything enough to waste that many words on it. Move on and hush.

Stop with the background music
The background music takes away from the content and is so distracting. I’ve stopped listening for this reason.
Please stop.

LA Water story
Very disappointed in the LA water story.
This episode made the common mistake of thinking the story is about the podcasters and not about the story.
Don’t want to hear about the podcaster going there, they’re slow driving etc etc.
The talking and giggling was so slow an drawn out, people don’t really want to hear this.
Not up to the Throughline standards.

Terrible Production
I occasionally try to listen to this show because their topics and perspectives are very interesting to me.
But the direction and audio design are amateurish, bordering on bizarre. Listen to just the recent Dickens episode. Every voice has been post-processed in a different way, and sometimes one character’s voice changes from moment to moment; nothing makes sense; it’s distracting and baffling, and it makes me wonder how people working professionally in a storytelling medium which has existed for more than a century can have so like competency.
Some of the actors are capable and natural, and some are not. I’m not someone who easily blames actors for bad performances. Performing artists need to be given tools to succeed, and it’s clear that nobody who is part of this show has ever recognized that good acting requires good direction.
I don’t know why they insist on creating flimsy dramatizations of history when that’s not the wheelhouse of anyone on the staff.
I also can’t conceive of any reason why experience hasn’t made them better at the format they’ve chosen. They’re still terrible at it, and their listeners need to let them know that they are falling short.
From what I can tell they are mostly journalists and historians, and those jobs are important. But artists and creative technicians are important too, and there don’t seem to be any artists or creative technicians on Throughline’ staff.
Mostly they just record what seem like single-takes of undercooked and underdirected readings of different pieces of old texts, and they believe that by getting someone to do a British accent and adding lots of reverb in post that they’ve done their job.
I could go on and on. Please at least hire a proper director for one of your shows. Great theatre and audio directors are actually all over the place, and the most shocking thing about Throughline is that your producers haven’t stumbled upon even one before now.
The ineptitude is staggering!

I always learn something fascinating!
Throughline is always excellent: thoughtful, well researched, adding depth to some topics and issues I might have only vaguely known about, or not known about at all.
I especially loved the recent episode on the history of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, a story I’ve always loved. Now I love it even more! Thank you! 🎄

Confused about how we got to this point in history?
This is THE BEST, most well researched show on radio that explains historical events as they influence this crazy, confused world we now inhabit!

Very informative!
Started listening to get a better grasp on the Palestinian conflict. Was not disappointed! The pod cast is well produced and offered good insights and greater context to the problem. Excited to to listen to other topics!
