Priori Incantatem / Dumbledore’s Big Plan
Hey brother! Love the show; one of the few podcasts I listen to at 1x speed; a highlight of my drive to and from church on Sundays. I have a thought related to the twin cores. “If, however, the owners of the wands force the wands to do battle…”, what if Dumbledore were being hyper-literal here. Expelliarmus is categorized as a defensive spell because it only disarms. But from the perspective of the other WAND, it is offensive. The only other spell I can think of that attacks the wand and not its owner is Priori Incantatem — the effect that emerges. Perhaps this is one of the reasons the effect is so rare. Not only do the wands need to be siblings, but a specific subset of spells need to be cast. Since Harry attacked Voldemort’s wand (and not Voldemort himself), it may have given Harry an advantage with the golden beads. As Dumbledore knew this, perhaps this is why Expelliarmus was the example “defensive” spell rather than Protego, etc. at the dueling club in Chamber of Secrets. Thoughts?

Hey brother!!!
I love listening to this show and the deep analysis of every bit of ink on the page. It’s perfect for the car or to fall asleep to. You guys catch all the things I would totally miss! My question is, what if Draco was unable to repair the vanishing cabinet? Would he still have disarmed dumbledore? Would the death eaters still attack the school? How would Snape’s unbreakable vow play out? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Undeserved fudge criticism?
Love the show guys, I’m currently listening to book 2 ch 14 and yall are both saying obviously fudge should’ve suspected hagrid immediately because he was supposedly the one responsible last time, but if it is known that he was “convicted” based on Tom Elvis Riddle’s word, and then riddle became the dark lord. Shouldn’t that lend itself to the idea that Hagrid was framed, or at least Tom’s word not to be trusted?

Why Did Only Dumbledore Guess Voldemort Was Using Horcruxes?
Hey guys! Thank you for an amazing show. Really love your deep thinking and comradery. Question: Why was Dumbledore the only one to guess Voldemort was using horcruxes? We know that horcruxes are severely dark magic, and Hogwarts denies access to learning how to create them. But it’s not indicated that people don’t know they exist. Everyone knew Voldemort had disappeared for 13 years then suddenly came back. What other explanation is there than he had a horcrux holding him to this life? I feel that someone else, either death eater or opponent, could have figured it out, even if they didn’t know what items might be horcruxes. ~ Bethynie

Hey brother!
I’m am a huge Harry Potter fan. I read books and watch the movies at least a million times. I have a theory: what if the basilisk is part Occamy? They are both magical snake creatures and Occamys can grow and shrink to fit any space available, so it would explain how the basilisk could fit into the pipes at Hogwarts. Amazing podcast. 10/10. Five stars.

Love listening while cleaning!
Huge fan of all you guys work. I was talking with my wife about muggles in the wizarding world. Do you think they can use magical artifacts? Like the deathly hallows or the mirror? Can they drink potions? Use a time turner? I have so many thoughts about how they fit into the world! Love the show, keep it up!

Barty-mort Crouch?!
hey brother!
I love the show! Here’s an interesting theory, What if Barty Crouch jr. came back to life, then used the resurrection stone to see voldemort? Would he get possesed (either like Quirrell or completely), essentially coming back to life? Or would Voldemort just sort of manipulate him in the "dead" form like how Harry brought his parents, Lupin, and sirius. I know y'all have mentioned before that you think voldemort couldn't come back via resurrection stone, but if he could...
Would love to hear your thoughts!

Awesome Show
Hey Brother! I love the show! It’s so much fun! I was wondering… What if Slughorn didn’t reveal his memory? Would there be a different way they could figure out the number of horcruxes or would Voldemort just be unstoppable?

Centaur Question
Hey brother’s! Huge fan! I saw you guys on tour in Berkeley. It was awesome! Quick question: do you think Centaurs have magical abilities and could use a wand? Could they ever be admitted to Hogwarts? What would that look like? They would definitely need some different chairs and sleeping arrangements. Thanks guys!

Polyjuicing as tonks?
Hey brother! I love the pod! I have a question for you. If you were to become tonks with polyjuice potion, would you become a morphmagus? Or maybe tonks’ true form? Or what she was when you took her hair? Or what she is at the moment you drink the potion? Or would you morph when she does? Lots of possibilities, hope you can work this out!!

Great Podcast
One of the highlights of my week. Very insightful comments.
My question is what if the Dursleys were killed (sheer coincidence) by Voldemort? Who would take Harry in this world, if Sirius was still framed?
Is there any chance that dumbledore himself would take Harry?

This podcast is giving me high hopes for the tv show
Hey brother, absolutely love the pod! I have two questions, the first is what would’ve happened if Dumbledore had discovered Moodys true identity earlier? The second one is what if Fudge stopped the tournament and they found out that Barty Crouch Sr was murdered? Thanks for everything that yall do for the HP community!!

Complete the trio!
Hey, brother! Love your content, I have done Harry is in slytherin, Ron in hufflepuff, and dumbledors big plan. I am excited about this new project! As a thought, though, it would be nice if you did a Leah’s if hermione was in ravenclaw” project, between books. That would be Awsome. It feels wrong that you did the other two, and not hermione. Just saying,
Three is also a magic number.

Love this show. Tune in every week while riding my bike! I have a question. What would happen if Voldemort killed harry in the duel in the grave yard? Who would greet him in kings cross? What would happen if he woke up in the
graveyard and didn’t know how to
get out? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Peter’s True Animagus Form
Heyyy Brothers!
Love the YouTube channel and recently discovered the pod!
I was thinking about how Prof. McGonnigal’s cat form has markings around the eyes that resemble the glasses her human form wears, and I began to wonder about Peter’s rat form.
With Peter’s silver hand, would Scabbers have a silver paw? Would it also be unusually strong?
Also, why did everybody suddenly call him Wormtail in Book 4!? I know it’s his nickname, but everybody seems to do it. Even you guys!
Love the theories, Harry Potter and Pixar especially!

Voldemort brother?
Hello favorite sibs! I’m wondering if there is any chance that Tom Riddle Senior could have married the horse riding girl (Cecilia, darling) after he recovered from the love potion from Merope Gaunt. Just because Tom Riddle died with his parents doesn’t mean he didn’t have another family. Could there be a Voldemort half brother out there?

Keeping the Magic Alive
HEY BROTHER!
As a blind child with a visible disability, Harry Pottered offered me comfort and companionship when I felt unseen by my peers and the adults in my life. Not going for help when situations got tough felt like the only option to me, so I never questioned when our golden trio made the same choice. I read the books in braille when I could (which was not all the time as braille books are bulky and expensive to produce) and listened to Jim Dale when I could not. Getting my hands on a copy of Deathly Hallows from my state's braille book library program was a highlight of my childhood, all 10 volumes and 12 pounds of dotty paperback goodness. Book reports were barely completed and chores went forgotten that summer. I read in the middle of the night when I thought my mom was asleep, much like Harry working on his "Witch Burnings in the 14th Century were Pointless" essay. I got caught and he never did, even though I didn't need a light. How is that fair?
Now that I am a father of two young children of my own, your podcast has brought the magic of the wizarding world back to me in ways I could have never prepared for. I have read fanfic and had lore discussions with friends, but your insightful and humorous analyses of these stories bring me new understanding and new questions. I don't always agree with your points and theories, yet I think that's what keeps drawing me back to a new episode or a new video. Your team fans the spark that I first found in myself as a child and helps me stay young at heart. Hopefully one day you choose the Cincinnati/Dayton Ohio area as a tour stop. Thank you for all that you do.
My question is not earth-shattering, but rather speaks to your knowledge of characters and your creativity. It is fun and whimsical and I hope will showcase your love of the series. What do you think are the memories each DA member uses to cast a patronus? I believe Hermione's is being rescued from the troll, as that is the moment she knows for certain her bookworm self has found two true friends in this new and exciting magical world. It is scary, yes, but also exciting and a moment that shapes her entire life. What other memories could fuel an ultimate expression of happiness given form by our beloved DA students?

If anyone hasn’t heard of their super Carlin brothers then they must be living under a rock. They are the absolute best source of information for the series. Didn’t know I needed this podcast till I heard about it on the YouTube Channel. 10/10 also have you guys ever considered doing wings of fire content. It would be huge.

Mind reading?
Hey Brother! I wanted to start off by saying thank you for making content and having a great community, as that’s how I met my partner years ago. My question is this: what do you think would happen if you tried to read the mind of someone under the imperious curse? Would it be blocked? Would you get the commands they’re being told? Would it depend on the master’s ability to block mind reading? Maybe some other thing I hadn’t thought of? I thought of this because when Harry is asked calmly if he put his name in the goblet, Dumbledore seems to read his mind and Crouch was right there too.

A Theory…
I’m just listening to the Through the Griffin Door Podcast for the first time, and I know this is several years late, BUT I couldn’t help but notice how y’all skipped over that the weather man in chapter one of sorcerers stone is named Ted!?
I’ve always thought he was Ted Tonks! In first chapter “The boy who lived” about 9 minutes in on the evening news: “although owls normally hunt at night and are hardly ever seen in daylight, there have been hundreds of sightings of these birds flying in every direction since sunrise. Experts are unable to explain why these owls have suddenly changed their sleeping pattern.” The news caster allowed himself a grin; “most mysterious. Now over to Jim Mcgoffin for the weather. Any more showers of owls tonight Jim?”
Jim: “Well Ted; I don’t know about that but….” Etc.
I don’t think we ever learned what Ted Tonks did for a living. So I have assumed for several years now that he was a weather man 🤣
Anyway love the podcast, nice to find people that also listen to Jim Dale read the books to them on repeat, and look forward to delving into things I never caught or considered!

What if ? About occlumency lessons
Hey Brothers! All of your content is great, but this is by far my favorite weekly podcast. I have a “what if…?” for you that I don’t believe you’ve covered previously. What if Dumbledore had chosen to give Harry occlumency lessons instead of Snape? Should we assume it is successful? Does this mean Sirius doesn’t die (at least not yet?), does Voldemort find a way to get the prophecy? Does the ministry no longer seeing him at the end of the book mean Voldemort continues his rise in secret to the general public? Many big changes are now likely!

“Er” is pronounced differently in England
Heeey Brothers!! Love and look forward to your podcast every week!! Absurd how many insights and theories y’all are able to find going through it this way.
There’s something though that I’ve been wanted to point out that I only figured out myself a few years back since I’m American. I’m pretty sure it’s written as “er” because “r” is pronounced like “uh” at the end of sentences in England. So it’s really just him saying “uh”, the normal stammer/filler word. Especially when you think of the Sphinx’s riddle, it’s spider or “spiduh” with a British accent. Dunno if this is obvious to everyone else and I’m sitting here thinking I cracked the case. 🤷♀️ anyway, love you guys!! 💚♥️💙💛

Fantastic podcasts and where to find them (right here)
Hey brother! I’ve been following SCB for over 10 years ever since I accidentally stumbled across the original Pixar Theory video. I’m a huge fan and this podcast is everything I could want from a chapter-by-chapter analysis of the Harry Potter series. J and Ben are excellent hosts, very knowledgeable, and provide thoughtful commentary and hilarious goofs. Highly recommend!
I do have a “what if” question for you. How do you think the rest of the series would have played out if Bellatrix had killed Harry during the Ministry battle? Love the pod, keep up the great work!

Cauldron bottom thickness
Hey Brothers! Love show! My question is, is Percy Weasley inadvertently responsible for Voldemort’s comeback in goblet of fire? Barty crouch jr put his dad under the imperious curse around the time Percy delivered his report to him. Is it plausible that barty Jr read the report and instructed wormtail go get an extra thick stone cauldron that wouldn’t leak during the flesh, blood, and bone potion. Had he not read report, it’s possible Wormtail gets a lower quality cauldron that leaks, causing the potion to fail, delaying Voldemort’s return. What are your thoughts?

Lovecrux and Debtcrux?!?!
So obviously we all know about the lovecrux. But what about the debtcrux?!?!?!. We know that worm tail essential owes a debt to Harry from Harry saving his life in POA. What if since Voldemort used Wormtails flesh this further hindered Voldemorts ability to kill Harry? So not only was Harry tethered to earth because of Voldemorts arrogance, but he was also protected via Voldemort having flesh of a servant who owed a debt to Harry. Causing a kind of magical incompatibility when Voldemort confronted Harry.
Also I’m a firm believer in that Dumbledoor gave Olivander a feather from Fawkes because he guessed that the wand with it would choose Harry and further give him an advantage against Voldemort.

Always a snake?
Heeey, Brother!
We are all familiar with Voldemort’s snakelike features as he undergoes his transformation from human to “immortal being” but my question is: if another person attempted the same as he did, making seven horcruxes, would they also begin to resemble a snake (catlike eyes, no nose, pale skin) or would they resemble a different animal instead? We are all very used to Voldemort’s relationship with slytherin and Nagini, so becoming a snake makes sense for him, but for everyone else, too? *bonus question what animal do you think each other would resemble*
Would love to know your thoughts!

Hey brother! Love your podcast and YouTube channel! Truly amazing theories that get me thinking. One thing that’s always bothered me is the fact that the basilisk travels through the castle via the pipes. But wouldnt it be too big to fit? And when did Hogwarts, a hundreds of years old stone castle have pipes installed? How would the basilisk travel before then? Thanks for bringing this safe (surrrrrre Dumbledore-!!!) haven into new lights, your fellow Hufflepuff.

Love this podcast. It has become my happy place on my morning walks before work. The amount of times I laugh out loud are too many to count and, as a writer, I find the analysis incredibly helpful and hope to apply it to my own stories!

Hey Brother! Love the podcast and all the fun details you guys find! I have a (hopefully) interesting what if for you two: What if the Marauders befriended Snape instead of bullying him? Hogwarts Classes
Hey Brothers, I really enjoy listening to your discussions. I’ve been thinking about the Hogwarts curriculum and came to the conclusion that a person without magical abilities would be able to attend and complete the vast majority of classes at Hogwarts. Classes like Astronomy, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Divination, Muggles Studies, Care of Magical Creatures, and History of Magic don’t require magic. Some classes clearly require magic like Transfiguration, Charms, D.A.D.A. and Quidditch (if that counts). Divination technically does as well but it’s so rare to have that ability that I don’t count it. The only two I’m not sure on are potions and herbology. My question is shouldn’t someone without magical abilities, like squibs, still be allowed to attend Hogwarts and take these non magic required classes? Thanks and I can’t wait for the next episode!

Unforgivable Curses Question
Hey Brother! I love the podcast! My brothers and I used to listen to these books so often we could guess what book, chapter, and disc the other was on within seconds so it’s nice to listen to people talk about the things I catch on re-listens.
My question for you is: What do you think about the association of each of the trio with the unforgivable curses? Harry is obviously the killing curse, Hermione gets tortured by Bellatrix, which leaves Ron with the Imperius curse. Maybe shown with Ron being so subject to Fluer’s charms. Would this also support the idea that Percy (and maybe even Arthur) were under the curse at some point? Could this be a Weasley trait?
Love the show!!! I look forward to it every week.

Ancient Magic Revealed and Dumbledore’s Art of War
Hey Brother!
I’ll start off by saying that I absolutely adore this podcast. It’s a great way to kick off my Sundays! I love the tangents, jokes, sudden theories, and everything in between! Keep up the awesome work!
I’ve got two questions for you, both partially related to each other.
The first is about the Department of Mysteries and Ancient Magic. Throughout the series, we briefly hear about Ancient or Old Magic- stuff that the wizarding world knows little about. It’s powerful and plays by its own rules. Yet, we never get an exact definition of what exactly IS Ancient Magic? However, I think we get something pretty close: The Department of Mysteries. We know there are multiple rooms in this department: each focused on a different area of study. We’ve got Space, Time, Thoughts, Prophecy, Death, and Love (and probably more). Aside from bearing striking resemblance to most of the Infinity Stones from Marvel Comics, I’d be willing to bet that these rooms are each devoted to a particular field of Ancient Magic. They each contain powerful forces which seem to surpass or even ignore even the most powerful of magic and curses we see in the series (a major theme of the series, if you ask me: even with all the magical power in the world, it’s meaningless in the face of these fundamental forces). What do you think about that? Do you think there are other rooms in the Department of Mysteries? If so, what other ancient magic do you think they are studying there?
The second is related to the Hall of Prophecy, namely Dumbledore’s masterclass in handling the Prophecy of the Chosen One. I’ve heard it mentioned that it seems strange to call the Prophecy a “Weapon” when, in reality, it would offer no aid to Voldemort. Hearing the unheard piece of the prophecy would do little to help him defeat Harry. So it begs the question: why was the Order convinced it was so important to protect? Why did they seem to think it was a sort of “weapon”? Why didn’t Dumbledore reveal its true (seemingly “inconsequential”) nature to them?
My theory is that Dumbledore really took Sun Tzu’s Art of War to heart: “All Warfare is Deception.” Dumbledore assuredly needed to buy as much time as possible to learn everything he could about Voldemort and put the pieces into motion after the events in Book 4. We know Dumbledore also has a firm understanding that knowing thyself and knowing thy enemy is the key to success (after all, Harry’s private lessons center solely on that concept: understanding Tom Riddle). Dumbledore knows Voldemort will go to any lengths to try and overcome Harry. Naturally he would focus on two things: exploring the prophecy he had partial knowledge of and finding a way to overcome the twin core effect. So I think Dumbledore played up the prophecy internally among his allies to make Voldemort’s side convinced the Prophecy was the “ultimate weapon.” While not a physical weapon, Dumbledore made it look like it held all the answers to victory and played a game of keep away while Voldemort chased it like a moth to a flame. Meanwhile, Dumbledore had months to himself during Book 5 to put everything he needed into place which would be revealed in Book 6 and 7: gathering all he could about Riddle’s history, learning about Horcruxes and their locations, and ensuring he had contingencies to help Harry along if Dumbledore met his end and make sure Harry could utilize the Love-Crux to survive the whole ordeal.
Would love to hear your thoughts!

Remorse
Hey brothers! Love the show, especially when you craft new theories live on air.
One theory that popped into my head when listening to you talk about Snape this week: WHAT IF Snape DID kill somebody, but had already felt remorse by the time of the Prince’s Tale conversation? That could explain how Dumbledore knows remorse can heal a soul, and why Snape would not want to go through the painful experience again.
In my headcanon — counter to Pottermore, I’m sure — one cannot become a Death Eater without killing someone for Lord Voldemort, and it was PROFESSOR BINNS whom Snape killed (sometime during the Marauder era) in one more effort to get a teaching spot open for Voldemort or a Death Eater to infiltrate. Alas, the plan was foiled by Binns coming back as a ghost! And remorse was of course orchestrated by Dumbledore making them colleagues.
I’d love to hear YOUR theories on whom Snape would have killed, and how he would have come to feel remorse.
PS — before anyone says ‘but Draco didn’t kill anybody before getting the Dark Mark!’ I’d like to remind us all that Harry-the-king-of-jumping-to-conclusions never saw Draco’s arm, and so I have not yet let go of the old and top tier theory that Draco was in fact showing Borgin a bite by Fenrir Greyback. #TheBiteIsRight

Heyyyy Brother, love the podcast, it always helps me get through the work day each week, and it’s so much fun to hear theories get crafted on show that appear as videos later.
Question for yall, how do you think the creation of a horcrux would interact, with another horcrux. If someone were to kill another person with a horcrux, would it still count as murder, would it still split the soul?
