Stoicism or commercialism?
I understand that some podcast need to have commercials, but he’s also got all kind of product placement. It ends up feeling like half the time is spent selling his books or protein powder or getting you to go to some website. Where is the beef?

Insightful and inspirational
One of my go to podcasts when driving or jogging. The content often serves as a reminder to move towards the man I want to be.

It starts with people eating cereal
The first 5 seconds is the sound of someone eating cereal. That is the worse thing you can do for an audio show.

Learning a ton!
I have been learning a ton by listening to this podcast. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available on the Wondery app and the advertisements are just too much to tolerate. Hopefully that situation will change.

Too many commercials
The content is excellent. Ryan is a captivating teacher as well. However, Ryan has decided commercials and celebrity guests are more important than the content. He seems to have lost his way and sacrificed his own values. Not much stoic in his behavior as of late. Disappointing to say the least. Let’s hope he turns it around and gets back to the basics.

Why You Don’t Want to Win the Argument
Very groovy episode!

Great bite sized resource for concise info to think on and get me through the morning
I am grateful for Ryan distilling this ancient philosophy for my busy schedule and speaking out against what is wrong for what is just. However, the amount of advertising on this podcast is so off putting now.

Daily Dose of Stoicism
A blend of ancient wisdom and modern reflection. I love how Ryan makes philosophy feel practical and personal and I appreciate the daily dose of stoicism.

Another left-leaning podcast
This podcast has some great info about Stoicism, which is great. Unfortunately, the narrator can’t stick to stoicism or resist the urge to get into politics. So, you end up with yet another leftist podcast disguised as philosophy.

Just slow down and reflect
Your political lilt is swaying your objectivity. Trump is not Nero. Just stop. Schools have a responsibility to protect academic freedom and not allow anti Jewish forces to silence Jewish students PUnTO! Be even keeled and equal. You're more than this.

Dose he do this for a living look how many episodes there are!
Game is good, but ads are bad
Daily sales pitch
I’ve been a subscriber for years and have all of Ryan’s books. But the podcast is unbearable now. The best episodes were in 2021-23. now it’s incoherent with constant ads to buy a journal or book or coin or newsletter. Maybe 3-4” of new content per episode. Rest is the same pitches repeated.

Stoicism turned political
I miss the pre politically motivated Daily Stoic. Seems every time he can he is whining about political views that’s oppose his or making snarky commentary. Seems contrary to what the stoics had in mind. Again, we all are human and have our own opinions.

A way of Life
The Daily Stoic has become an incredibly important part of my life. Ryan curates the most important Stoic lessons and truly believes in what he does. I bought a copy of Meditations since first hearing its importance in Ryan’s life. I apply the lessons daily and fail sometimes. Just having the reminders, interviews, suggested texts, etc. helps me ground my mind to where it needs to get to. This podcast has changed my life. I recommend it to anyone at any stage in life. I found it a year post-divorce and I assure you, had I been a true Stoic when I first met my ex-husband, I wouldn’t have married the wrong man.

Small nuggets of gold
I really appreciate the short format of these episodes. The lessons are very helpful in all areas of my life. Ryan‘s voice sounds kind and intelligent.

Just one really long advertisement
I really wanted to enjoy this podcast, and I do credit it for introducing me to Stoicism. While the interviews are engaging (albeit mostly with self-serving elitests), the whole point of the podcast seems to promote Ryan Holiday’s vast merchandising endevour. After many times of listing to the first 10 minutes of what I though would be solid Stoic direction turn out to be self-promotion (In the “What Now” episode we are directed to follow up our dive into Stoicism by signing up for a ridiculously over priced course on his website), I decided it was too much. There are better Stoic podcasts out there by people with actual degrees instead of one guy who read one book and built a multi-million dollar empire.

Wisdom
Great to hear so much stoic wisdom shared in one place. As for the people who hate his politics… maybe some self-reflection is needed? Maybe excess, cruelty, corruption, and barbarism are not tenants of stoicism and decent people feel that it’s time to speak out… Thank you for using your voice, Mr. Holiday.

Expands your Thinking
Ryan Holiday provides insightful and thought-provoking ideas to expand your thinking. As I grow in practicing Stoicism I appreciate listening to Daily Stoic as a way to not allow myself to misinterpret the teachings and apply them in my daily life.

Ryan Holiday is the real deal. I could listen to his voice alternate all day long.

Great way to start your day.
Ryan’s concise and direct delivery is an easy way to cut through the clutter as my mind is waking up. It makes stoic principles easier to apply by “keep[ing] thoughts like these at hand”, and helps me stay focused on what’s truly important and what is within my control. I was recommended this podcast by my best friend; I have made my husband a fan as well. As far as the promotion and politics — let’s be real, he has to earn a living and also wants to spread the word of stoicism. It’s important as ever now with our chaotic landscape. I’ve felt Ryan has been pretty moderate in all the years I’ve listened and have been on both extremes on the political spectrum myself in that timeframe. It would be disingenuous as a philosopher if you can look away from pain inflicted on others and not use it as a living example on how to apply these principles. It only shows this philosophy system is relevant and timeless and gives weight to its practice. If you don’t agree, learn to be more open to others and others opinions. It is impossible to always agree with someone.

If it’s not political, then don’t make it so
Your insight and wisdom was a refreshing addition to a broad listening landscape. Why ruin it with the comment about our administration?

Being a political hack isn’t stoic
Stoicism isn’t about being an angry political hack, which this guy clearly is.

Too much self-promotion
The good: contains the occasional nugget of philosophical insight. Good audio. The bad: several minutes of a ten minute podcast contain advertisement and self-promotion for the Daily Stoic bookstore.

Thought Provoking!
Intelligent and thought provoking conversations. I am loving learning all about stoicism and how I can connect with it. Thank you for sharing!

His politics are a steaming pile of garbage, but he has wonderful advice for anyone interested in listening. I think he just listens to too much msnbc.

Being judged for political opinions?
It seems the issues being taken by certain listeners are not a flaw in the author’s strength or reliability as a stoic, but rather that of the listener who is unable to hear an opinion that differs from their own. Lots of butt hurt 1 and 2 star reviewers the past several months from folks who have no issue “trumping” this podcaster with a poor review after receiving so much good, consistent and free content. I don’t say this from a place of loyalty to this podcast. It’s just an observation. Eat the hay. Spit out the sticks. Be an adult.

Wisdom and Encouragement
I appreciate the daily dose of stoic philosophy in an easily digestible style. It really helps keep me focused on what matters.

Too political and disingenuous
Funny. I was considering following Ryan’s podcast again. Then I saw reviews describing Ryan’s political slant, because last summer I stopped following/listening to Ryan when he remarked about someone that he clearly disliked politically. When I heard it, it really looked disingenuous considering his stoicism “advice”. I got the impression that it was a “do as I say, and not as I do” posture. I listen to another stoic podcast that focuses on how to approach events in life using stoic philosophy.

Important as ever
The message of stoicism is as important now as ever. We now no more than the ancients, but have forgotten everything they knew. Stoicism has helped me so much in the last few years to just be a better person. Ryan never claims to be perfect , but he brings this information to an audience in a way that relates to right now. The guests are always insightful and from varied backgrounds,

Not surprised Ryan now has a great podcast!
Great to find a new place to listen to Ryan’s content.

Good stoic messages, wish the messenger was better
Ryan provides excellent access to stoicism which I truly do appreciate. Through brief podcasts, emails, and tweets, he’s able to make the main messages of stoicism accessible to everyone. However, he’s gotten political lately. Admittedly, he espouses politics that aren’t mine. I enjoy the stoic messages but not when he uses it to apply it to send a political message. He hides behind stoicism and uses it to make a political point. It’s frustrating because he doesn’t claim to be political, but he very clearly makes political points for one side. He will take a stoic “virtue” and use current politics as an example, however it always is used to attack one side. He doesn’t claim to be the perfect sage and it’s clear since he can’t keep his opinion to himself

Wonderful Wisdom
The content Ryan Holiday has been putting out into the world lately is some of the best and most helpful I’ve encountered. His ability to teach stoicism in a modern context is second to none. He provides actionable advice and down to earth perspective without sugar coating or suggesting apathy. He is the real deal. I hope to make it to the Painted Porch someday just to thank him in person. His wisdom has led me through tough decisions and helped me process the world around me with clarity and perspective.

Just awful.

It’s alright. Becoming political.
It’s a shame because what’s on here is pretty good stuff. But like all rich and somewhat famous, the host thinks everyone will care about his political views. Was fine until the election, but geez enough already. We know who he likes and doesn’t like. He could have said it once, but he continues to drop it in every other episode. Boring. I don’t even like my own opinion shoved down my face.

The preface he gives says it all before he interviews a real monster. Ryan’s value is in his books, not this medium. I’ll still listen from time to time, but …yikes.

A blessing
Love the philosophy, love how you translate it for practical day-to-day life use. A blessing. Thank you.

One embedded ad after another
Most episodes start as an important stoic concept, but then Ryan drills down on his book, class, etc. a 12 minute podcast was 7 minutes about his master class, and ended with “I’m not trying to sell anything. I get about 5 Daily Stoic podcasts a week. The don’t mind normal ads, but these embedded pleas are overwhelming the potential good work Ryan COULD be doing.
Shelly2417
That’s it.
He’s became delusional. On the Why We Don’t Change episode Ryan went too far and showed he has poor judgment. He could not keep politics out of it and showed to be an apologist for Biden who is and will be remembered as one of the worst even if Ryan can’t change. Unfollow.

This is the one
This is the one podcast I listen to on a regular basis. This experience has been life changing for me. The interviews, the talks, all of this content is helping me find the path I have been seeking for decades. Highly recommended. I hope to shake Ryan’s hand someday and say ‘thank you’.
