Vocal fry
Love the topics and stories on this show but some of the hosts have vocal fry that makes it hard to listen to.

Ads ads ads on top of vocal frye
I really enjoy the topics and most hosts. But Sooo many ads for such a short podcast. And the vocal fry and valley girl inflection with Johanna Mayer and few others is too much to listen to. I find myself focusing on catching the forward button for the constant ads, and trying to ignore the assault on my ears. Unfortunately I give up about 25% of the time

A fun break from the madness
I love the variety of topics in this podcast. I'm so glad I stumbled up upon it! Atlas Obscura has become a daily habit when I'm taking a break from work or going for a walk. I love the short format! I'm going back and listening to all the old episodes.

A story that stays with you
Just listened to “The Hummingbirds of Mexico City” and learned so much. Such a beautiful and meaningful story. Kudos to Manolo for a wonderful episode, and to Catia, whose work and story were incredible. More of this!!

Need A Break…
… from the madness of the world? Informative, entertaining, enjoyable, bite-sized snippets of sanity. At the very least, it may give you a heads up on a trivia night. Maybe. :)

Amazing podcast
I loved the new one that they were at a “haunted hotel” then they started talking about a cooler ghost story
Cats are cute forever
Thank you 😊

Butterfly travelers
Episodes are always good but I particularly liked the recent episode on butterfly travels. And the Venus flytrap poaching was great.

Such a great informative show
I learn so much from such a short podcast. It’s just fun stories from all over. My kids even like listening to it with me. I love their interviews and the obscure subject matter you won’t get anywhere else.

Please please stop vocal fry. In fact- outlaw it!;)
I really really really like the show. It brings unusual and interesting things, but I have to tell you that the show I heard today 100 years of motels. I had to turn it off the two podcasters need to stop with tje vocal fry and that totally fake obnoxious way of speaking it was so ridiculous. Sounding that as much as I love the topic I can’t listen to them. I may be the only person in the world complaining about that. And that’s OK with me

Podcast for everything!
I’ve been waiting for a podcast like this. It sheds light on the strange or unexplainable with nuance and care, along with history, interviews, and gorgeous theme music.

More info: less forced hilarity please.
Casual talk about a shared discovery would be easier to enjoy without the forced laughing and asides. It’s OK. We can enjoy the content without the frosting. It feels like a laugh track.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!
I’ve been meaning to write a review of this show for years because it’s one of my very favorites. This show transports me to an old world feeling that seems to be a rare occurrence these days. Its simplicity, wonder and quirky humor leaves me feeling happy and adventurous even when I don’t have time for a real adventure. I’ve recommended it to my sister to play in the car when she’s driving her 10 year old around and now it’s their family favorite. I hope Dillon and his wonderful team will continue this gem of a podcast for years to come!

Simple, enjoyable and informative
In the state of chaos it feels like we are in right now, these short and succinct stories help remind me that the world is bigger, more nuanced, and filled with wonders waiting to be discovered and understood. I like listening to this podcast and being taken to these different places, hearing their sounds in the background - all while I’m making a meal or taking a break at home. It feels adventurous and, at the same time, somewhat grounding (if that makes sense). At the very least, it is a much welcome reprieve from (what feels like) the weight of the world falling down on us and finding there is still beauty and joy to be found and celebrated.

Fun podcast
I really enjoy the broad range of topics. Dylan’s voice makes me hungry for Almond Joy and Justin’s Peanut Butter Cups

Just a great way to spend 20 minutes
I can’t really remember how I heard about the show , or which episode was my first , but I was puttering around the house ( my post retirement job and turned it on and for the next hour or so , I heard some of the most engaging ,interesting ,and educating stories I have heard in a while . All in the 20 to 30 minute range and perfect for a putterer and his tasks . The range of these titles is so vast and varied , you never get bored . Sometimes you learn something useful like the recipe for a great holiday cookie ,straight from a grave in NYC It is like story time you used to get in school ,makes you want to learn more ,and explore places you have not as yet seen . Bravo staff & Dylan …keep em coming

Rolando Pujol episode
Loved the discussion about quirky roadside buildings and attractions. As a youngster my family drove every summer from Albany,NY to Reading and Hillsdale,MI. Loved the painted barns. In Hillsdale a business had 2 statues of dinosaurs as you entered the town. Always a favorite.

A Favourite
Really love and appreciate Atlas Obscura. Dylan Thuras is a great host. Every episode is enticing, fun and informative. Makes you feel like you are listening to friends share their adventures and experiences and not a structured interview. Thank you!

Hard to listen to
Although all of the topics are very interesting and informative, it’s hard to listen to Dylan and his gang say LIKE so many times it’s hurts a normal humans ears. It’s so hard to understand why “professional entertainers” are SO lazy with the English language. I hope they’d read this is an open mind and try to do better rather than being defensive.

Beach Stories
I enjoy your beach stories such as the Grey Man and Shipwrecked Doritos. I find it fascinating to hear old legends retold on podcast the way a book takes us back in time. Thank you for sharing such interesting insights around the globe and entertaining audiences everywhere.

Delightful
Since discovering this show, it’s one of the things I look forward to each morning. Short stories that reignite wonder in the world we live in. In a media landscape of constant coverage, it’s easy to feel as if there is nothing left to discover, but this show will remind us every day that there is always more to see if we are looking in the right places.

What a joy!
Whenever I need a reminder that the world is indeed a wonderful place full of curiosities and quirks and fascinating people, this is my go-to! What a joy! And to the people complaining about ads … I don’t like them either but how else are they supposed to pay the bills?
ccmcmk2
Informative and Well-Intentioned
I’ve recommended, shared more episodes and poorly retold more stories from this podcast than any other. Each time, I describe the tone as “well-intentioned”, not to imply a lack of quality or knowledge, but in honesty. Dylan and the crew are heartwarming and brighten my days.

What happened?!
I used to love listening to Atlas Obscura but Almond Joy!?! It’s such a fake, it can’t even say chocolate. It has to say chocolaty because it would be lying to say chocolate. It’s garbage junk food and you are pushing it for advertising dollars. You have sold your soul. Sad. Farewell.

Dylan, my husband and I love your podcasts! We shut off the lights in our living room and get comfortable in our respective comfy chairs and randomly pick two or three pod casts most nights. We really enjoy 1. The subjects - so random but fascinating. 2. The writing style. 3. The famous tones that ring at the start. 4. Your speaking style. 5. Clear and well spoken narrators 6. Shortish yet long-enough episodes. 7. Easy to listen to. Thank you for your work on these. I was an original subscriber of the newsletter and now really enjoy the podcasts. I got my sister in San Diego hooked on the newsletter too. Thanks again!

Inspiring - Bright Spot in my Day
I highly recommend this podcast. It covers a wide variety of unique and interesting places to visit and is a great companion to the website. It is a reminder of all the possibilities out there and I draw inspiration from almost every episode.

Content is great, but…
Love the content. A couple narrators employ vocal fry, probably out of habit. It’s so irritating to me. I have to skip those episodes.
mominBulgaria
Ever wonder why it’s called Atlas Obscura?
Because it’s obscured by an insane number of ads.

Great show. Short and interesting
This is a great show. I discovered Atlas from the website, but the show is even better. Episodes are well explained in the perfect length. This gives you an opportunity to explore and dig deeper further on your own if you find what you learned captivating. Highly recommend

Delightful inspiration
I love all the quirky places and experiences that are highlighted on the podcast. I love traveling, and try to work in seeing something I’ve heard about. We just visited PistachiolLand in Alamogordo, NM and the Casa de Azucar in El Paso, TX.

The Best Way to Impress People at Dinner Parties
I love learning new things, whether it’s new places or fascinating creatures or strange places, I feel like my mind can never take in enough information! I also love impressing my friends with stories but not having to do any of the research! Seriously, I’ve been a faithful listener for years. I love that the information is in digestible language and length, and I feel like the hosts are friends. Thank you for making us curious about the world!!

Good Show
I like to do adventurous things, and when I’m not… and doing more remedial home activities, this is a good podcast to listen to, to learn about the world outside and the fun things that await during travel!

Wonderful podcast
I’ve been a fan of Atlas Obscura for over a decade at this point so when I discovered there was a podcast I was incredibly excited. I love the Atlas’s work to spreading wonder about the world around us and to travel journalism. More importantly, as a trans man, I’ve enjoyed the work the podcast has done to not only spread awareness of LGBTQ locations, but also for other important locations to marginalized groups. Thanks to everyone on the team for their work making such a wonderful podcast.
