End it, you’ve run out of things to talk about
They were talking about megalodon sometimes they talk about dinosaurs, but the idea is supposed to be ancient humans human at least that’s how I always thought of it, but doesn’t really hold up

We NEED History (well done)
I stumbled upon this show when looking for something more satisfying. It has never disappointed. I’m impressed at how much I learn in a short amount of time delivered in an interesting and intriguing manner. Listen to this once a week and share with friends, and suggest they do the same. For one example, we all do know the name, Queen of Sheba, but we don’t all know the story. It is easy to change that.

Excellent Range
I’m not really interested in the classical period but there are some excellent episodes covering huge areas from the earliest sharks to Britain after the nasty Romans left. Tristram is the star of Dan’s presenters best by far.

Informative and entertaining
Each episode is a satisfying look deep into history. The host is enjoyable to listen to, expertly guiding the guests to discuss what we want to hear or to clarify elements that would be confusing to a lay person.

Love this Show
This has to be one of my favorite podcasts. I always learn something. The one on hieroglyphics was probably the most informative show of any podcast I have ever heard. Thank you so much.

Nice Pod
Nice pod on Hannibal in Italy Tristan. It was a little confusing. Perhaps it would help the guest if you led him with more questions. Just a thought. Thanks!

Fascinating and Informative History Podcast
The Ancients dives deep into some truly fascinating historical topics, and I always come away having learned something new. The interview format is consistently informative, though it’s not always the most engaging in tone. That said, Tristan does a great job as a host—knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the subject matter. There may be a few too many ads, but overall, this is a great podcast for anyone interested in ancient history. I look forward to each new episode!

The Minoans
I’m writing to complain about the pronunciation of words. The episode is very interesting but the professor, (whose name is Italian, and is pronounced “Momiliano”, without the “g” Tristan!) pronounced the name of the Minoans as “My-noans” which is ridiculous. And she teaches in England?! Minos also is never pronounced My-nos, not in Ancient Greek, not in modern English. And the most baffling thing from an Italian, she pronounced Syracuse, which is the anglicized name of Siracusa, as Sy-racuse! I boggles the mind. It wasn’t said like that in Greek, neither is it called that in English, but to bastardize her own language like this?!
Also, since we’re here, your professor Ansari pronounced Aeschylus Eeschilus! With a soft “c” when in Greek it is a”k”. And conversely, he pronounced Seleucids Seleukids, but not consistently. I’m wondering where these classicists have been educated.

From blah to yeah
All my school history classes were less than interesting, these podcasts and the hosts have made a history fan of me. The way they tell the “true” history makes me appreciate and eager to learn more.

Fascinating in-depth Topics
This podcast presents historical topics and delves deep with experts and good hosts !

Fun
This podcast is a lot of fun. I’m a regular at all kinds of narrative histories. I really enjoy how often the topic changes and bringing in experts in the subject to interview is a great idea. I’m about 40 episodes in or so. I just have to say that the guest for the Jurassic America episode was the most god awful guest. You can just hear the condensation in her voice every time she mentioned the Bible. This kind of person acts like you can’t be Christian and intellectual. I would love to ask her simple questions like how do they carbon date. Why do they use half life? The first half of my gas tank is very different then the last half as far as how long it takes to empty. It doesn’t make me stupid to not believe in Darwinism. Simple questions in the processes of how we know. Sorry for complaining over all love the show

Really enjoy this podcast, except…
The music at the beginning of the episodes is way too loud. It’s very distracting and detracts from the introduction to the episode. I usually enjoy the presenter and the subjects explored in this podcast. However, I’ve lately ended up forwarding through the first few minutes as I really can’t concentrate on the topic with music that is as loud if not louder than the presenter playing at the same time.

Voice quality
Please instruct your guest how to deliver podcast material effectively. Frequent poor audio performance delivered by guest speakers wrecks my listening experience.

Great topics, but..
The background music is too loud, makes it very hard to hear the dialogue.

Wonderful podcast!
I love this podcast and many others from HH. I am a history teacher and strongly believe we should teach the modern understanding of history, not just what I learned in high school in the 70’s. These podcasts keep me up-to-date with history.

Bring the past to life!
Tristan’s enthusiasm is infectious, as are many of his guests. Ancient civilizations, archaeology, paleoanthropology, paleontology. His podcasts always inspire to learn more.

Have Found My History Podcast!
Tristan the host is a brilliant and knowledgeable interviewer, asking great questions and leading the conversation sensibly, the experts are highly qualified and offer exceptional insight, and the topics themselves are endlessly fascinating. Trying to work through all 500+ episodes and learning so much. This is the most spectacular history podcast i’ve come across.
No issues at all
Nice podcast, annoying ads
I like this podcast, but “adult” ads for things that I don’t want to listen about make me not want to bother since it means I can’t listen in mixed company. I find some of their content, really insightful and amazing. But I think they should be more judicious in how they allow for ads

I love this podcast. Nice range of topics presented by passionate experts. And Tristan is a great and enthusiastic interviewer.

Frustratingly OK
Often weak in presentation, lacking in cohesion and clarity. Presenter Tristan is erstwhile yet inept, and really the main impediment to the success of the endeavor. Unfortunate. Guests are uneven in quality and value to the podcast.
An enduring bit of a mess.

The Iliad
I’m just going to say it…if your “expert opinion” on what the main lesson is that readers should take away from one of the oldest classics ever to be written is “let’s fight climate change” rather than the dangers of rage or the importance of honor or personal sacrifice or the gears of war or what makes a leader or how respect is everything, or the value of friendship, then you’re a FOOL…& no “expert” at all. Plain & Simple. The last quote the “expert” gave was “let’s save our planet” followed by a climate change book plug asking people to buy her book on how the Iliad can teach us about climate change. By far the most disappointing episode The Ancients has ever put together. Wow.

Academic learning is much more quality when partakers share passion or enthusiasm. Great attitude and execution from the host for a knowledge environment, I think it helps every guest really unload their thoughts and knowledge.
Willing to tackle topics from all across the board too.

History Comprehensive Yet Understandable
This is a fascinating show. The host has an unbelievable facility to ask the questions I am thinking about and he has an amazing knowledge base. The guests are well spoken - none over use the word “like” as a placeholder ( nothing is more irritating than hearing the word like in every other sentence).
I have never been bored listening to any episode. And my curiosity has been peaked so much I do more research on my own often purchasing books written by the guests.
Excellent show - well done!

Fantastic informative pod. Hosts guide discussions with expertise. Commercial ad are loud and lately have introduced politically charged content. “Heartbeat starts at 18 days from conception “ wth

The Ancients 👍
I’m not a scholar or historian. Just a nurse who is fascinated by ancient history. The Ancients is my favorite spot on the web for all things ancient history. Tristan is a great host and the guests he interviews are top notch. Highly recommend The Ancients.

The loud commercials & high subscription fee killed this pod. Listener before subscriptions were available & before all the loud commercials. Moving on to better free content, very unfortunate.

The Chinese Zodiac “expert”
Why not get someone who is a primary expert in the Chinese zodiac for the Chinese Zodiac episode? John Steele knows his Babylonian zodiac just fine but kept saying everything of the Chinese zodiac was difficult to explain.
It heavily lowered my faith in the expertise on this show.

Love all the topics and guests!
I love your show and listening to all the topics you cover. Tristan’s a wonderful host and the conversations are rarely dull. I’ve learned so much and always look forward to the next topic. Thank you for showing the ancient part of our history some love and providing such a great podcast to cover it all!

Great show when Tristen hosts it. Other host talks too much and tries to too hard to be hip or cute
