Excellent hosts
Fun, educational and usually G rated, Josh and Chuck seem to make darn near everything interesting.

Outstanding as usual
Been listening for several years. If you want a road trip to go by fast, then listen to the podcast on squirrels. I tend to listen to up lifting topics, but all of them are primo productions.

R U Kidding?!
This podcast is exactly the reason why podcasts are free, and ANYONE can have one. Whine cl*ck little boys. Not leaning left, they pole vaulted to the Left. TRY to get some facts right. So far, your “research” has been horrible. And PLEASE , if you get paid to speak…swallow your dang saliva and speak clearly! Marble mouths.

Private Equity Rhetoric
As a first-time listener, I was drawn to your recent episode on private equity. While I would not claim to be a private equity specialist, I am familiar with the general mechanics of the industry. What struck me in your discussion was the framing: the rhetoric leaned heavily on imagery of “corporate raiders” and hyperbolic references that conjure up Hollywood portrayals such as Pretty Woman. That style, while vivid, risks distorting rather than clarifying the subject at hand. In doing so, the podcast seems to miss the broader purpose of private equity: providing liquidity to founders who may not have a straightforward path to retirement or succession. Passing a business to one’s children is not always feasible, nor is an IPO practical for most privately held companies given the immense costs of listing—often in the hundreds of thousands, millions, or even billions of dollars. Private equity opens access to capital for small businesses and industrial firms that otherwise would not have efficient avenues for transition. The episode’s suggestion that the primary motivation for private equity lies in the distinction between public and private markets, as if it were driven by governmental structure, overlooks a critical point: the inefficiency and expense of public markets, not ideology, is the true barrier. For many founders, private capital is the only viable means of unlocking the value they have built over a lifetime. Moreover, private equity has expanded investor access. Today, retail investors can participate indirectly—through vehicles like 401(k)s, or platforms ranging from Robinhood to Morgan Stanley—benefiting from a sector that once was accessible only to institutions. The danger in portraying private equity in one-sided, villainous terms is that it fosters division rather than understanding. Speaking as a lifelong Democrat, I find this type of framing both unhelpful and, frankly, irresponsible. A more balanced approach would better serve listeners seeking to understand not just the pitfalls of private equity, but also its structural role in modern markets and the opportunities it creates.

Stuff you should really know
Private Equity - Stuff They Don’t Know
I’m listening to the episode on private equity and it’s clear there was no work done to really understand these models. The majority of my professional life has been working for companies owned by private equity. All these companies were in massive growth mode fueled by the PE firms! That’s how they make their returns. There certainly are times companies are overvalued and the parts are worth more than the whole. When that happens, PE provides another service of value to the economy. Please research this topic and re-release this episode. Otherwise, everything else you taught us (me) is now in question. Thank you.

USAID & private equity
I’m listening to your episode on private equity and my head is exploding. If a company is doing a great job and is profitable they don’t need private equity. Typically private equity comes in when a business is failing. That means they’re nearly defunct, but there may be parts of the business that can be salvaged and have value. This is typically what happens in a capitalist society. Inefficient businesses or businesses that don’t produce a product at a price that people want don’t succeed. You guys need to understand how a capitalist society works before you start virtue signaling. BTW, have you looked at how much advertising is on your show? What about all your poor listeners that are subjected to endless commercial breaks? Does anybody virtue signal and feel bad for us listeners who are subjected to this capitalist structure that you operate on? I’ve listened to you guys for years but seriously, the older you guys get the more self-righteous you become. Age is supposed to temper us and make us wiser. You guys just find things to complain about now. I listen to you guys a lot. Would love for you to do a deep dive into the US debt. Maybe even just talk about how much of the Federal budget goes just to pay interest on the debt. While the amount of foreign aid, as you pointed out in the article, maybe minuscule in comparison, every pet project of every person (member of Congress) in the US has put us into a debt spiral. Here’s an idea, which I didn’t hear you cover in the episode, everyone that feels passionately about the things that USAID did can make donations to other organizations that do those kinds of things. The world would be a better place if people put their money where their mouth is. If you feel passionately about AIDS in Africa do the work and spend the money. The world is changed by what you do. Not what you say.

Limited viewpoint
Unfair and one sided view of private equity. Leaning out a business is one model, not the entire asset class. Thought this was an educational podcast not a smear campaign.

Excellent humor
I’ve been a listener for quite some time. Always enjoyed the show. I must admit though, I laughed my butt off at the Cypress Hill reference in this latest episode!! Keep up the good work

The Red Beetle
Most Beatles were red because it was a cheap way to advertise because red at the time was the most prominent color to be seen on the highways. The car for the people was great and had a very forgiving transmission. However, it did tend to spin out, but could get you through any amount of snow. I am curious why you failed to mention Hitler’s raise money to finance the beetle. He approached common citizens that they could not afford down payment so may it layaway. They’re not built yet so by the time you pay it off, you’ll get one Hitler took all those down payments paid for more war materials and not one Volkswagen financed by the German public ever got built but I’m sure it bought a lot of tanks and bullets. Don’t forget Dustin Hoffman’s ad.

VW parts
Great story about VW. We have a 2013 beetle. But now since they are not making them anymore, they also aren’t making the parts for them and using other parts don’t always connect with the VW. We know because we have had a throttle body part replaced 3 times. Love our VW but parts are a bit disappointing !!!

Hi josh hi chuck
I’m literally a 13 year old boy who plays runningback and I care for this show if that doesn’t tell you anything you should probably start listening to this 24/7. Great show!

Annoying voices
One of you sounds like you are in a nursing home! Why do they keep picking people with annoying and aggravating voices to host podcasts. It's really not a radical request.

Always interesting
It feels like you’re hanging out and talking with friends. I love these two and have listened for almost 15 years. No matter the subject, Josh and chuck make the conversation engaging and entertaining!

Great content, insufferable commercial interruptions.

Absolutely Amazing - except from 2 things .
This podcast is awesome! It keeps away the boredom and is a delight. However, all the ads are just about constant, time wise and staying wise. And, and and iPodcasts cuts episodes from earlier. They’re cutting from 2014 it’s nuts. Definitely a good show though all the ads. P.s you can use the transcription to skip ads

Too many ads and bad alchemy
Love the podcast but Iheart has more ads than content in the podcast. It’s too bad. I wish the host could do their own thing for over an hour with legitimate contents and not just 20 minutes of advertisements. Also as an anthropologist, the alchemy episode hurt. Please research pronunciations and the limited amount of facts you share. It wasn’t even decent for an episode.

Holy ad break
Never heard another podcast where guys talk for literally 3 minutes and say “should we take a break?”
hskekvgj
Interesting podcast, but they need to be careful about what they cover
This is specifically related to the episode about Bengal cats. I appreciate that both guys are not proponents of breeding hybrid cats and people buying them, and while they briefly get into the wild parentage, they don’t talk about these tiny, shy, wild cats being used as breeding stock, and the horrible life that they live. Then there are the wild souls inside domestic looking bodies and sanctuaries across the country that are overflowing with hybrid cats surrendered by people who didn’t realize what they were getting into when they bought the cat for its looks. Breeding and selling hybrids should be banned at a national level!

Ads RUIN this !
I would rate 5 star because I love this podcast and have been listening for years but the ads have increased dramatically over the last year and absolutely destroy the experience! At least there were less before and they were read by Josh and Chuck. Now they are awful loud ads, many in a row and throughout the show, often promoting horrible content such as upsetting true crime stories. It makes this really difficult to listen to, and there is no ad free option. I hope this changes so I can change my review

Yep, still an overly liberal slant on everything.

Good information but poor hosts
The information is good, but in my opinion one of the hosts plays a dumb clown too far, and ruins the show.

Ayup!!
..Like listening to 2 well-read friends having a conversation in the next room. One is more annoying than the other [read: one of them is more like me], but they love each other well. They’re both curious, and I like that. I bet they’re actually dope. Don’t worry about the title of the episode- just let it play. And if you’re a musician, give us another rendition of their classic intro! Artful novelty is the mood here. Be welcome.

4.5 years later
In January, 2021 I started listening to this podcast while walking our pandemic adopted dog. Two dogs, a kitten & 4 1/2 years later (listening on 2x speed) I am finally caught up! I’ve learned so much about a large range of topics & recommended this podcast to so many people. It’s honestly quite strange to hear current events mentioned and impossible to go back to 1x playback speed.

Awesome
Everybody who hates this is just wrong they teach me new stuff every single day and I will spend hours on hours. Just listening to them. Their topics are very interesting instead of just the normal. What is 1+1 and boring stuff. This is actual real. And all those people who say too many ads too many ads that’s how they keep the podcast

Holmes and Van Halen
Jeremy Brett was the absolute greatest Holmes and there is no better place to start enjoying the character and the stories. Eddie Van Halen was of Filipino extraction. He was born in the Netherlands and his parents emigrated to California when he was a young child. David Lee Roth is a native New Yorker and the nephew of the owner of the legendary Cafe Wha. David used to hang out there as a kid and saw many of the iconic acts that performed and got their start there.

Perfect
I love this podcast, and the fact that in one of the jingles, instead of “Josh and chuck” they say “jock and chush” makes me laugh every time. Also I went to the live show in North Carolina, and I’m still waiting to hear about rope trauma

Leave your personal politics out!
As a kid my history was offended when we asked her political party and stated it disrespectful to ask someone’s party or who they voted for. Wow has things have a changed and personal I speak for many when I say we don’t care about YOUR personal political views. Let’s take your USAID episode.. I already know why you did it and your political leaning. However the point Ill make is this… You did an episode years ago on health inspections that was simply wrong in every way.. I know this because I worked in the food industry for decades and held certifications. The point: you need Experience and inside information to know the truth within an organization. (Such as USAID or Health Depts). You have neither so in both cases your opinion will vary far from fact.

Calm down?
I don’t think the words “calm down” have ever produced positive results. It certainly turned me off before being able to give it a chance. Does the public really enjoy these arrogant podcasters slipping in gross insults to those of us that believe in humanity? Disappointed.

Sound smart to your friends
Chuck and Josh have made me sound so much smarter than I actually am to both my wife and friends. If you’re dumb, like I surely was before starting Stuff You Should Know, you should listen too! 😉 For real though, this is a great show for old and young alike. The format makes it easy to follow along and Josh and Chucks terrible (kidding) jokes are oddly calming and help make the subjects lighthearted more than like you’re studying something. If knowledge is power then SYSK is like eating a mushroom in Super Mario Bros.

Good podcast
I’m only 11 but, I like this podcast. but usually, I fall asleep before the episode end.( I’ve been doing that since I was a baby). Also, you should make a hockey episode. You have over 2,000 episodes, and the best you have is a Zamboni short stuff. Don’t know many websites for research, but Inside Out 2 is pretty spot-on. Another suggestion I just thought of: Giftedness. What makes intellectually gifted people different? How does the label “gifted” affect people? What classifies as “gifted”? About how many people in the US are gifted? ALSOOOOOO… in the acne episode, you describe rosacea. DON’T WORRY PEOPLE. My dad has rosacea, and it’s not too bad AND there’s treatments. I have ocular rosacea, (rosacea is genetically passed down) and it’s not bad after my treatments. You cannot tell.

2 many ads and 2 many times off subject
The Iheart ads have taken over the show. On a recent short stuff, started with ads, middle of show with ads, ended with ads, lots of ads each time. Also, guys, you get way off topic about movies you’ve seen and other episodes you’ve done or should do that add nothing to the subject at hand, then you take a break with more ads. Like the hosts in general but unfollowing the show.

Ads ruin it
I’d give the podcast 5/5 but having to skip over irrelevant ads by force quitting constantly ruins the experience. Wish I could actually enjoy the podcast.
