Love everything about this podcast
Such a wonderfully researched show. And I love Weirdhouse Cinema. I look forward to it all week.

Love this podcast, but HATE weird cinema
I have listened to this podcast for years and absolutely love, love, love every subject that blows my mind. However, I really HATE weird cinema. I have your podcast set to play on my queue at all times when there’s a new one so I have to stop the car or wake my husband by opening my iPad to fast forward thru them. I really wish it was a separate podcast…it needs its own little niche of followers. Sorry. I’ll never stop listening to STBYM but I’ll continue to skip listening to descriptive movie talk…maybe just give a recommendation once in awhile at the end of the podcast and people who want to go watch them will.
I wrote this a while back but now I think it’s time to delete this one…I love the show but I hate the cinema stuff…it definitely doesn’t blow my mind…it’s like the horrible person at a party that has to tell you the whole plot of the movie they just saw but it’s harder to get rid of this one. I guess I’ll listen to the last STBYM episode and then I’m out…I’ll check back later to see if you make the weird cinema thing its own show so we don’t have to listen to it, and I know I’m not the only one…I’ve seen others leave the same review

One of the better podcasts
I’ve tried listening to many podcasts, but it seems that the majority consist of way too much needless banter and too little research and topic exploration.
Not so with this one. At least with core episodes, the hosts seldom banter and really dive deep into each topic. You can tell the hosts painstakingly research the topics they discuss. They also have clear, soothing voices.

Great podcast all around
Love this podcast and have been listening for years. It’s my go to show to relax while still learning something. Wanted to add that initially always skipped weirdhouse cinema however I started listening and really enjoy these episodes as well. The hosts’ voices are so calming and their banter is nice. Please keep up the great work!!

Would pay for commercialless
I honestly love this podcast and don’t want you to take it the wrong way, but the combination of fascinating topics and soothing tone of voice from both Joe and Rob I use this podcast to drift to sleep almost every night. It’s insane how well it works. But the disruptive commercials can wake me back up, is there ANY way to get episodes with no break? Consider it an important health boost for your listener base!!

Great show, entertaining and Informative
I love the science shows, really love the weird house cinema, love the mythological examination. This show is the perfect mix of things I love. Keep up the great work!

Love it! …but not Weird cinema
I love this podcast but agree with the reviewer that said Weird Cinema should be a different podcast. I don’t listen to those and I don’t like them. I like the science deep explorations.

Rob and Joe host my favorite podcast
You just can’t beat STBYM Joe and Rob are so smart and so cool and so good at their jobs that you just can’t lose. An excellent way to enrich your life.

Way too many adds
Way too many adds. It would be one thing if you had adds at the begging and at the mid point but having adds peppered throughout is really frustrating. This would be a great podcast listen too when going to be but the constant adds are jarring. Really takes away from the experience, especially the weird house cinema episodes

Insulting to denture wearers
Be cautious. This episode is insulting to denture wearers everywhere. Lacks empathy. No more Mary Roach or this podcast.

Great show!
This is my favorite podcast. I never listened to podcasts and this was my first. I have since explored more but this still remains my number one. Robert and Joe make ANYTHING interesting. Dust? Yes. Trees? Yes. Movies I will never watch? Yes! I love this show and I appreciate everything all of these people do!

Nuclear Explosions
Underground boring machine nuclear explosion could contaminate ground water. It would blow
my mind if you talked about denuclearization.

Great show
Love this show. And the cover always reminds me of Jake from Adventure Time.

Here for the science episodes
I don’t listen to the monster facts or the cinema episodes, but I very much enjoy the deep dives into seemingly mundane topics like hearths, hermit crabs, iron, and ice …pretty much any of the episodes that have 3 parts. Those, I love very much.

Excellent, Thoughtful, Informative Podcast
Joe and Rob always do an amazing job discussing a wide array of topics from a scientific perspective. They also discuss hidden cinematic gems once a week in their Weirdhouse Cinema episodes. Joe and Rob’s easy banter and interesting angles make every episode worthwhile. I highly recommend this podcast. It will make you a much bigger hit at parties.

Can’t listen anymore! TOO MANY ADS
Long time listener. There are so many ads I can’t deal with it. Nearly 20 minutes of ads on a 40ish minute podcast is absurd. I don’t mind some ads; I fully understand this is a free podcast, but the hosts have gone overboard and are greedy. Clearly they don’t care about listeners anymore. The show simply isn’t interesting enough to sit through such an outrageous amount of ads.
CANTLISTENANYMORE
Interesting show, more ads than typical
I do like the show, but I find myself skipping most episodes because of the HUGE quantity of ads. Each ad break is multiple ads long, and there are NUMEROUS ad breaks, alternating with short spans of discussion. I know ads are how podcasts stay in business, but the balance of ads vs. content here is worse than I’m used to. Of course you can skip them manually, so do give the show a chance and see if the balance works for you.

Mindful
My mind was recently wrecked. STBYM is helping me fill a lot of gaps in.
Hail Satan?
Meteor iron
Good subject. Next I suggest you do an episode on American Indian use of meteoric iron. The Hopewell culture, the pueblos, and the Inuit.
Thank you.

Fascinating Topics
I love all the episodes! As a nerd and anthropologist I love the range of topics covered. Sometimes is sci-fi physics, animals, movies, and more. Even the listener mail episodes are interesting. Great work guys!

Mud
Listened to the mud series while hiking around a lake solo for 8 hours. I now know more about mud than I will ever need to. 10/10 would recommend.

Love the show! Amazing science facts, monsters and myths, and weird movies
I love the science episodes and have listened for years!
Weird house cinema are my go to episodes to listen to over and over in the car!
Great hosts that dive deep into topics and I love how they bring together the history, science, mythology and the speculative into a fascinating journey of discovery!

What’s up with the white noise?!
Why did you add that to your “break” aka commercials. It was alarming. I like to listen to you at bedtime where I can ponder. That was jarring!

Great show with something for everyone
I’m a huge fan of weird house cinema, it has introduced me to whole host of movies that I may never had heard of much less watched.
The show has given me a great appreciation for mid 20th century cinema, the cheesy 80s, and even foreign films most notably out of Czech!
My other favorite segments are the inventions episodes. I find taking ordinary every day items and tracing their origins as far back as possible.
I’ve also really enjoyed being introduced to different myths, such as Irish and Chinese folk stories.
Great show, please continue providing me with one of my favorite podcast that I listen to every day. You both are wonderful hosts, narrators, story tellers, teachers and personalities. We are very fortunate and grateful to have you!

Growing in you!!
I love to listen to you guys. But I can’t stand mice or rats. I skipped past that. Thought you’d get a kick out of my story. When I was in 7th grade I inhaled watermelon due to a cough while I was eating. A couple weeks went by and I got sick. I missed several days of school. I went to the Dr. I was admitted to the hospital. I was suffering from pneumonia. I was discharged after 5days. I was on the couch at home and I began coughing so bad and I couldn’t stop!!! I had coughed up watermelon seeds that had begun to grow. The seeds had feelers and her feeding on the infection in my lungs. The only thing I couldn’t give them was light. This is the St. Luke’s medical history.

Learning, but without the stress
We have podcasts running 24/7 around here (since we work from home) and every pod we subscribe to teaches us something. But sometimes, world news gets too intense and we need a break.. but celebrity-centered fluff is too boring.
Enter “Stuff to Blow Your Mind” to save the day!
It’s engaging, stays interesting, and usually broadens our horizons about topics we haven’t thought of before. And each episode goes a bit deeper into the research too, so even if we’re familiar with the topic, we still usually learn something.
Plus Rob and Joe have great radio voices too!
I could listen to them read a washing machine manual! Thankfully, they post a Listener Mail episode every week, so there’s no need for that ^^;
The pod posts regularly, the topics doesn’t go stale, it sounds fantastic (no fuzzy mics here!), and they don’t have volume spikes/dips either (like so many others do).
On top of that, they still post a Vault/Classic episode when the guys take a break. (Life saver!!)
For all these reasons and more, we thank you “Stuff to Blow Your Mind”. Been listening for years and we won’t be unsubscribing any time soon <3
P.S. We also can’t sleep without something playing, but I can’t handle repetitive sounds or political stress at night before bed. So I load up a bunch of old “Stuff” podcasts to play through the night (like I am right now lol). But we totally still listen while we’re awake too!
It’s meant as a complement bc it’s super helpful to know that I can trust there won’t be any loud noises, jarring transitions, blaring intro music, or people yelling during the night. So shout out to the Production Team! Y’all are awesome <3

Love this show
It’s worth listening to just for the movie episodes alone.

Information Climax
A relaxed atmosphere filled with facts I never knew I needed. There should be a ‘Trivial Pursuit’ version of STBYM.

Kept my child curious
My curious child loved it, I put it on while I make dinner, sleep,do the chores and use the bathroom and the entire time he stays still and doesn’t bother me. I can speak for my whole family when saying I absolutely adore this

Blow my mind with fiction?
Either get a new title or more science, I had to go back 100 episodes to find something real “history of odometers” which is a repost from 2022!

Ugh
Please work on developing the presence of mind to, “unquote”, at the end of your quotes. You would do well to represent yourself in a more intelligent manner by practicing this correctly. Otherwise great stuff. 😎

Sleepy mud
This episode on mud put my entire family of science lovers to sleep. Maybe it gets better after the 16 minute mark, but we didn’t make it that far.

Never heard so many ads
So, I finally tried to finish even one episode, knowing there would be many ads, but I just couldn’t make it. The ads are that unpleasant.
It's alright; I'm a doctor.
More Science
I love your show, please do more science episodes! P=NP was fire. I feel like most of your stuff now - pun inteded, is weird house stuff.

Love this Podcast!
I love how you guys cover all facets of life from the real life science of how black holes work to cryptic zoology. Recently you did a monster fact about Tyranids from the 40K universe and as fellow fan, I hope you keep this going! Could the 40K universe be a reality? As grim as that sounds, it would be neat to hear your thoughts on the sci-fi aspects 40K explores. Thank you for all your hard work and please keep doing the do!

Astrology Ads
I can’t believe it’s come to this. Literally every ad break in the episode I just listened to was a double whammy of Astrology and Influencer Drama. iHeart does not care about this show whatsoever, it’s only more ears waiting to be pushed to their more ‘on-brand’ offerings. The stratification of the podcast feed with multiple shows was confusing, but I could at least manually filter what I did and didn’t want to listen to. Robert and Joe are outstanding and I wish they could run this podcast independently — but obviously this is the real world. Alas.

Deep dives into great topics
I love this show! Some shows like this sound like the hosts looked up a topic on Wikipedia and are reporting back on it. I can do that myself. This podcast is in-depth, digging deep into fascinating topics. Four episodes on mirrors?! Two on tumbleweeds?! Count me in. I like how they approach each episode from a scientific, historical, sociological, and literature perspective. I just discovered it and am looking forward to listening to the back episodes.

Weirdhouse Cinema
Weirdhouse Cinema is phenomenal and has given me so many new movies to check out. I’ve loved many of the obscure titles this show has turned me on to.

Bored to death trying to listen to this. And the one dudes mic is picking up the sound of every but of his saliva.

The golden age of podcasts in real time.
Without a doubt the hosts are two of the most scholarly polymaths with the most beautiful American English, they enunciate and delve their words and ideas so carefully and succinctly. Often Robert is better at putting forth a premise and Joe is better at explaining it.
I hope they read this.
Listening sometimes is like going home after being caught in life’s mental storm.
Their voices are so soothing and ideas so intriguing.
