It could be great but…
I’ve listened to most of the episodes. On the plus side the hosts are obviously knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This podcast would benefit from playing the song at the top or bottom of the show OR sample parts of the song when discussing it. It would provide much more context given that the average listener probably doesn’t know or remember every song.

A fun conversation; no need to take notes
I’ve been a fan of Rob Sheffield for years and it has been great getting to know Britney Spanos as they talk about the songs on the RS list and their cultural importance. Very knowledgeable on culture and history even if they called Madonna punk rock more than I cared for (lol), but I admire the passion for pop and the people who make it. I absolutely loved hearing them go so in depth on Max Martin and his contribution. Everyone leaving bad reviews needs to chill. This podcast doesn’t appear like they intend to be educational. The conversational tone is more like a casual hang than a lecture.

So far, pretty weak…
I listened to the first episode, which was a song I didn’t particularly care for, learned nothing. I haven’t listened since because somehow the chosen songs are so uninspiring. Keep waiting for one that (a) I have heard of, and (b) I care about. I get it, I’m a grumpy old guy, but come on, there was music before 2010.

Vocal Fry
I would enjoy it except for the vocal fry.
Ri. Enjoyed your show!!!
Derivative - audio clickbait
a perspective from hosts who know little of music history lacking depth and perspective-. And I think shamefully riding the coattails of Andrew Hickey’s A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs or 500songs.com

They don’t play the song
How stupid they spend a half hour or so talking about the song, not bad. Then THEY DON’T even play the song. Awful.

No point, just all over random talking
Been looking for good music and song podcast…this is not one. Just random talking, no format, just non interesting dribble.

Wanted to love this
Couldn’t make it through the 3rd episode. I was expecting to come away having learned about the history of the songs instead I got opinions and feelings. Not much to recommend here, it’s a real lost opportunity.

Waste of time if you actually want to hear about the SONG
I never write reviews but this podcast needs help. I expected to hear facts/history/lore about the songwriting and the artist but it was nearly all the podcasters opinions and impressions about the song and artist. In the “Into the Groove” episode they kept referring to how Madonna wrote the song about a hot Latino neighbor. But they never told the story. Hello, can the listeners get the story? That’s what I expected to hear, not them droning on and on about how Madonna makes them feel. Unfollow.

You need Andrew Hickey
Check out the podcast called “A History of Rock n Roll in 500 Songs” which has been doing this for years and is brilliant.

This is endorsed by Rolling Stone? The Magazine??
Wow did the first episode leave A LOT to be desired. Man there was not much to this podcast (Fleetwood Mac- Dreams). Really heavy of personal feelings of the hosts and not much in the way of actual music criticism/evaluation/assesment/ history of the song. Pretty vapid, flat and uninspired. Oh and of course they had to have the "millinial take" because their opinion is the only one that matters ? (question mark???)! I hope this gets better because this first episode was a strikeout. Come on Rolling Stone step up your game!!!
