2 years ago my mortal nemesis and I were feuding like we always are and out of nowhere he recommended this podcast. 2 years later and I have listened to every episode. I had seen all of Mikes’s standup and have really enjoyed this podcast. It introducing me to Chris Fleming and I cannot thank it enough for that. Ps to all guests: If you tell Mike the most traumatic experience of your life it will surely be met with “you have to do that on stage.”

Oddly familial conversations that make me snort laugh and smile
I’m really enjoying this series because the back and forth is so casually vulnerable and the humor is kind of layered into it. My favorite guest has to be Nathan Lane, who is such a natural storyteller and has effortless quips and melancholic honesty. I loved hearing his experience, positive and challenging, on The Birdcage, how he is one of the greats and still has his insecurities, and his throwaway line to grow up and have an affair. If family conversations usually end in loaded exchanges, repeating your boundaries, or just awkward well wishes while you feel the distance has never been greater, I imagine this is a great place to listen some fiery back and forths and thoughtful conversation between friends. It’s been especially good to listen to as we wait and see what the doomsday clock is deciding to do. 5 stars!

The pesticide advert makes me so mad!
I love this show. Love Mike’s take, and find it refreshing that he doesn’t have a sidekick, or someone constantly laughing in the background. Well done and entertaining. Thank you! Update: Really can’t stand the pesticide ad. Seems way off brand. But what do I know? We’re not actually friends.🤗

I listen to this and just enjoy it. The questions are well thought out—they aren’t controversial but are certainly intriguing and definitely things we want to know about these people. Love it!

love me some birbigs
love them all, especially Elyse Myers. Connor Ratliff and his “dead eyes” also a must.

I'm using this podcast as an intervention
A friend of mine is a very talented joke writer who hopes to become a famous and wealthy standup, but only hones his jokes, never his sets, which he insists be fully spontaneous. Ten years later he still performs at open mics. I've decided to do anything I can to introduce my friend to episodes of this podcast to convince him how much more work successful comics have to put it than he's ever done to prepare his own sets. It's so good, it's not only like therapy; it's interventionworthy.

Why 200 Episodes you ask?
Because we can’t get enough! Also it makes the splashdown series of events a little more welcome-

Excellent
How were you not nominated for a Podcastjng Golden Globe?!?! My sister put me onto this podcast and I binged hard and have now listened to every. Single. Episode. Notables: #115, #116, #195, Liz Allen This podcast changed my life. (Or changed my perspectives). You’ve introduced me to so many new (to me) comedians! I signed up to learn how to ‘yes and ‘ in improv class (never doing stand up, but want to be a better communicator). And the “best of”makes me sad because c’mon, that’s lazy. There are soooo many more comedians to interview! Especially now that you’ve added a ‘paid’ subscription there is less content. Let’s see Shayne Smith, Pete Lee, the Bored Teachers Gang, and more people I’ve never even heard of! Please keep working it out !!!

I love the exploration of the creative process in each episode. It has given me perspectives on creative outlets which led me to learning guitar.

A great balance of humor and real life stories.
It is so easy to connect with the guests on Mike Birbiglia’s podcasts. Mike asks terrific questions that lead to insightful answers. You will laugh and in the same few minutes you will realize that we all have our struggles. If I wrote all of my compliments, this review would be too long.

A Helpful Comedy Podcast
It’s fun to listen to comedians tell stories and workshop jokes, but there is something more to this podcast. To me it feels more human and less superficial than other comedy podcasts. I think a lot of comedians struggle with anything sincere, but Mike B. nails it. I particularly like the Arthur C. Brooks episode for not having a second comic and not trying to be funny, but just being interesting and informative. Thank you!

Always…great, funny, authentic, insightful & sincere…
Mike & his guests provide humorous and fun conversations that also leave a valued trail of insight and wisdom. It’s great “inside comedy” conversation with experienced comedians and also great conversations with interesting entertainment people. Just do it and listen in. You will only regret it if your significant other, family, friends or employer expected you to get s…tuff done for them while you were binging on these podcasts. 🤷‍♂️

My favorite podcast
Fun, helpful and hopeful. This podcast inspired me to get back into comedy. Every episode is a winner but I highly recommend the Todd Glass episode.

Yes to Jen
Wonderful synergy between you two! Didn’t expect Jen to have such great comic timing, among her other gifts…

Informatively Funny!
After nearly a year of being a devoted listener I’ve gained the confidence to mount my own solo show! Some specific takeaways are Fred Armisen giving the advice to start off smiling and Mike’s advice to never make the audience so sad that you can’t bring them back from it. My show, Turning Tigers into Pancakes, opens this week in NYC and I’ve been humbly saying that if a Mike Birbiglia comedy special got together with a Hannah Gadsby comedy special and had a Black/Queer baby, it would be Turning Tigers into Pancakes. Thanks Mike! Thanks Working it Out team!

J. Hope Stein is a raging bore
Pete Holmes suffers from the same problem of putting his boring wife on his podcast. Please fellas, let’s stop indulging these stay at home moms and have some Interesting conversations with worthy guests.

Mike and Jen are wonderful together
Funny, touching conversation: a great comic and a terrific poet walk into a podcast and make me happy.

So good
Jokes on you, I wanted to cry in my garden while listening to J. Hope Stein read her poetry out loud.

Come for the deep talks about process, stay for the way Pete Holmes mercilessly makes fun of Mike
“You’re like the piece of paper they put on overhead projectors and a tired dad writes equations on.” Pete is not on the show all the time but when he pops up I’ve come to think of it like my generation’s Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. If you’re looking for a good place to start: 100th episode with Ira Glass, every Pete Holmes episode, and Quest Love have really stuck with me.

New music
Love Mike, this podcast is sometimes just a little low energy for me at times, personally. I do always enjoy the interviews and Mike is able to draw out authenticity from his guests compared to other celebrity podcasts. I’d give it five stars if the intro and transition music wasn’t on the low- energy/depressing side. I often don’t listen to episodes because the beginning music vibe just isn’t for me. I’d go see Mike, if he came to MA to do a comedy show, in a SECOND!!

Nick Offerman-my New Fave WIO

What I should’ve said
How do I put into words what this show does for me? I have followed Mike throughout his career. His stand up speaks to a very real part of me. Not just the shared experiences or the fact that my dad did stand up when I was growing up, but like someone truly gets me and doesn’t even know me. I listen to every episode and have since this came out. I look forward to it every week. I joined the pay subscription. I will continue to support this any way that I can because it is so much more than a podcast to me. This past episode with Caleb Hearon was the best episode yet. It is intelligent and funny and clever and human. I truly don’t know how to express my gratitude for something seemingly understated, but genuinely a part of my soul.

Just brilliant
Ok the Caleb Hearon episode finally pushed me to write a review, but I’ve been deeply in love with this podcast since I started listening a few months ago. Long time fan of Mike, love everything the guy does honestly. I’m an actor and comedian and I’m finally forcing myself to try standup (terrifying, thrilling) after decades of acting, sketch, and improv, so thought I’d check this show out finally. It’s great for comedy tips and insight, but the guests are just interesting in general and the conversations have been so inspiring for work and life. 10/10 recommend. Mike, you’re a treasure.

Get Caleb on here
Have absolutely loved WIO since the beginning. Great guests, many I discovered through the show. Recommendation for a future guest is Caleb Hearon! I sense that the discussion of craft would be so interesting between the two of y’all. It’s his moment right now, get on it, Birbigs team!

Sebastian Maniscalco was so fun
These two have great chemistry. I loved the idea of Sebastian helping Mike get tough on a current domestic issue. Sweet, charming, sometimes hilarious and very honest.

For Pete’s sake
While understand your point and I am by no means condemning the parties involved, you attempted to equated cursing with teen pregnancy. One is the inability to hold your tongue, found in the book of James, and the other is a sin, listed in 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians. I am not a fundamentalist Christian, but seriously you are embarrassing yourself.

Favorite Podcast
This has become my new favorite podcast, and I don’t even want to become a stand-up comic! I love Mike Birbiglia’s calm, friendly interactions. He breaks down how to do stand-up and talks to amazing guests and I could just listen all day. My favorites so far are Ira Glass and Fred Armisen.

Love Mike Birbiglia’s podcast Working It Out
I had the pleasure of seeing Mike perform in the East Village years ago with my friend The New York Times reviewer Neil Genzlinger who gave him a rave. I’ve enjoying his live shows ever since! And now the entertaining and informative podcast! Bravo!

May distract from chores
This show somehow has me laughing out loud one minute, and makes me stop to admire the sincerity and generosity MB so freely offers his guests the next. It’s truly refreshing.
