Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster
More is at stake for the oceans than whether or not Red Lobster goes under offering endless shrimp. Who supplies this “endless shrimp” supply to Red Lobster? Likely, no one reputable. I recommend watching Seaspiricy.

The markets are ‘an idiot’
I completely agree with you, but,…..c’mon….grammar matters!😀

Very out of touch
A lot of the segments seem very out of touch with the economic conditions most people are struggling through. Also, is Kai leaving? Seems like he's rarely on anymore. 🫤

Business News
Great podcast that gives the news in a business like perspective. War on Iraq? Higher oil prices which could be inflationary. And countless other examples that teach you how the news affect you in your every day life.

Marketplace: Why Is the Latino Economy Missing From Your Coverage?
Shame on American Public Media, Marketplace, and the entire APM ecosystem for continuing to contribute to the circumstances that made the ICE raids possible. It has been over a year since the raids began, and your individual and collective newsrooms still make Latinos largely invisible. Public radio and the broader media industry — including streamers and podcasts — have repeatedly chosen either to erase Latinos from the narrative or to generally portray them narrowly as criminals or victims. When I say Latinos, I am specifically referring to those of Indigenous descent primarily from Central America and Mexico. Their Indigenous features make them easily identifiable, which is precisely why ICE agents are able to target them so easily. So the question is simple: why does the APM ecosystem continue to refuse to hire Latinos behind the mic as journalists and broadcasters? Yes, there are a few scattered here and there, but overwhelmingly Latinos are absent from the very platforms that claim to represent the public. Why? Is it because they are of Indigenous descent? Is it because most are Catholic or Christian (Evangelical)? Is it because they are culturally and economically powerful? Meanwhile Catholic and Christian children are living with their parents in concentration style immigration detention centers — facilities funded by tax dollars that everyone in the United States contributes to. No one lives tax-free in this country. Undocumented people pay taxes too. Marketplace and other economy focused shows should already have produced multiple episodes examining the importance of the Latino community to the U.S. economy. A starting point would be the research produced by the Latino Donor Collaborative. Yet despite being based in Los Angeles — one of the largest Latino population centers in the world — Marketplace almost never centers Latinos in positive economic stories. Most glaringly, the show still has no Latino broadcasters behind the mic, even while repeatedly asking the public to become sustaining members and support the program. For more than a year, Latino communities in the Los Angeles region have faced raids, violence, and fear. The economic consequences for Los Angeles, California, and the entire country have been enormous. Yet this reality is rarely addressed. The pattern is unmistakable: Latinos are rarely hired, and stories almost never focus on the Latino community as one of the most powerful drivers of the U.S. economy. Prove us wrong that APM, and Marketplace in particular, do not despise the Latino community because it looks like you do. Change course. Hire Latinos behind the mic as journalists and broadcasters. Center stories on the economic importance of the Latino community and on how these attacks harm not only Latinos but the entire country. Because they do. Side note: hiring people with Latino sounding names who are not actually Latino does not solve the problem. Because of the continued refusal to address the economic importance of Latino communities — and the refusal to acknowledge how the economy suffers when Latinos are under attack — people are increasingly boycotting Marketplace and other American Public Media shows. After such a long year of abuses and killings of innocent people, continuing to ignore the Latino community is unacceptable. Shame on you.

Probably harmful
Biased takes, classist and unfortunately ignorant of economics

Concierge medicine
Love your show. As an ER doctor at an academic institution it was hard to listen to the conversation regarding concierge medicine allowing doctors to “practice medicine how it should be practiced”. Making medical care exclusive and behind a paywall is the opposite of how I believe medicine should be practiced and I think doctors making that decision should think deeply about the harm that they are causing to the healthcare system.

So disappointingly political
I grew up, listening to this show, and as someone currently getting an MBA, I want so badly to feel excited about it again. But I’ve become so disappointed by how political it is. We are currently experiencing such strength in the US economy, yet Marketplace is so hysterically reactive to this administration. It seems like its primary mission is to discredit anything good that is a result of policy under this administration, that the show looks non-rigorous and untruthful, even bitter. Each day’s headline is so negative to try yet again to try to create some fictitious fantasy land where the market is doing horribly. A sad, virulent case of blind ideology clouding truth. Makes me feel like the show could care less about its listeners and exists only to feed its addiction to current administration hatred. I hope it someday returns to neutrality and truthfulness.

Excellent podcast
Kai and the gang make learning about the economy (at a macro and micro level) super fun and engaging. Recent commenters have complained about a political bias, but I disagree. Current government policy is just objectively bad for the economy. Covering the effect of these policies is not a political bias. This is a daily listen to me. Kai is so relatable, warm, and just a joy to listen to. Thanks for a wonderful show!

Economists
So much snarky comments about Trump and conservative policies. There is nothing more annoying on this show than its constant subtle digs at Trump, conservatives, etc. So many interviews of economists who are rarely right and hardly any interviews of real business people. And when I listen to the consumer you interview, I wonder if they have any economic knowledge or everything they think is through their echo chamber political views. But then again, it’s obvious what the political biases are with all the snitty comments by Kai.

Decades Strong
I have been listening to Marketplace for decades and it’s only gotten better over the years. I learn something new when I listen. The personal features like “my economy”, the housing stories and personal business stories are great. They add a real life touch to what people are truly experiencing in our economy. Keep up the informative work Kai. And the music clips throughout your show are superb!

Used to be good
It’s very clear that Kai doesn’t like Trump. The show used to be good, but even when there are A TON of great economic indicators happening, he chooses the doom and gloom and to literally pick out all the negatives and focus the entire show on that. I’m over it. Do better, Kai. Do better.

I’m learning that I actually love economics.
In between this podcast, a few books, and my intro to Econ classes, I’ve changed my major and taken steps to have a career in economics. That all started with Marketplace podcasts.

The news with a slant
Sad the program is so one sided. Positive news is always followed by a BUT and highlighted with reasons for fear. Your show with the same data and less comment would really have worse to the average person and be shorter

Great Show
I love this show and have been listening to it since I was a child in my dad’s car. The bias of the show shines through on occasion but I still enjoy the stories and information. Can you guys finally switch over to a more long-form podcast show?
Super awesome cookie game
Love that it has not changed in decades
My dad used to listen to this show when I was a kid and I love that they still have the same music. It brings back so much nostalgia and I love that he was listening to this and I can do the same now and learn and also feel warm and cozy of those amazing memories. They make everything easy, easy digestible pieces so that a person can understand.

A Daily Must
Love the show and listen daily, but for the past couple days I’ve had to listen on the website because the latest episodes aren’t appearing on Apple Podcasts.

Kai Ryssdal's voice is like butter
I'd listen to him read CSPAN transcripts all day long and he'd make them interesting. He is charming, engaging and has an uncanny knack for agreeing with us all about Starbucks pumpkin lattes, Katy Perry and cronuts. You will not regret subscribing to this podcast. Also, the 2025 episode analyzing the decline of the American brand using data and economics was sobering indeed.

Great show
Amy Scott has a nice voice and great interview skills, but her narrations always sound so unnatural and weirdly toned compared to her talking to interviewees

Bias?
I feel like for an NPR show, theyre fairly unbiased… However, since the govt shutdown the bias is too much for one to ignore…. And it seems like they dont even mind their bias…. Just blatant opinion not aligning with facts. Hopefully they can right the ship, or i wont be listening much longer:(

Can’t live without it
Long time listener, first time reviewer. I love this show both for the high level economic commentary and the real world stories about how individuals experience the economy in their daily lives. A must listen for anyone who lives on this planet.

Not partisan!
Any listener who complains that the show has a political bias needs to understand the objective facts of the harms of certain economic policies, regardless of the party implementing them. To cover up said facts, or to manufacture praise of said policies - THAT is called propaganda, and we are all lucky this podcast doesn’t engage in that. Kai et al., please keep up the great work of educating us all.

This podcast is my daily routine
I have learned so much from listening to this podcast on daily basis. I become smarter and more analytical on our every day economy. This is my favorite podcast and I can’t live without it!

So interesting!
Normally podcasts put me to sleep. Never Marketplace. The host is great and I always get something out of each episode.

Very biased
If you are looking for an unbiased and objective podcast on the economy, don’t bother with Marketplace. Everything is a hit piece with a political agenda. I am a political independent and this one makes NPR look balanced. It’s awful.

My favorite show
I’m just hoping Kai Ryssdal never retires! I look forward to this show most evenings and Love how much more I understand macro and micro economics each day, even tho I practically slept thru Econ in college. Love the small business interviews, the data nerds explaining what it all means and Kai’s magnetic style. Well done, keep on trucking!

Love this pod!
As someone who knows nothing about economics, but is still interested in keeping in touch with current trends, this pod is a goldmine! They explain complicated economic phenomenas in simple terms that are easy for anyone to understand. They fact-check everything, they have lots of primary-sources and interview a wide range of folks, and they package it all into the most entertaining part of my morning. If you want to keep up with the marketplace, I would recommend listening to Marketplace :)

Long time listener
I’ve listened weekly for the most part for years but listen less often now due to the constant negativity, I can get that elsewhere. Please call balls and strikes evenly so we can have a refuge from mainstream media polarization. I think you would be surprised at how positive the response would be.

Biased coverage
I expect biased coverage in the mainstream legacy media (unfortunately) but I certainly don’t expect or want it related to my financial news and that’s what you get here. It feels like this podcast is paid for by the Democratic Party. I will have to find a different news source.

Great show, poor delivery
Big fan of the show, I have been listening since 2002. But I find it very frustrating that the podcasts are not posted at a regular time or even sometimes at all. The posting times of the podcasts vary from 4-4:30pm PST to 6-6:30pm PST. And on occasion even later or not until the next day. Why is that? Can Marketplace explain this? Also, as a Marketplace Contributor I’m starting to question what I’m donating too here.

Near-everyday listener, throwing in the towel
Been listening to this shows for about 10 years. Was the first podcast I’d listen to each day. Over the past several months, that has changed — as the podcast moved further and further down my list. I’ve now given up. The non-stop negativity and negative spin on every single thing the “right” does was my tipping point. The stories and the vast majority of the people they interview are chosen for their agenda and to, seemingly, make themselves feel better. Ive known that this podcast is heavily biased to the left, unfortunately, for some time. I don’t think they even realize it. Although the show is called “Marketplace” with a focus on economics and they claim often to not involve politics they often do. Further, when they do involve politics it’s to prop up the left and put down the right. You will never hear a positive remark on Trump or any republican policy. Please do better to stay unbiased, Marketplace.

A Change?
Why is the sky falling on this show every day now? It even seems like when there is good news in the markets, the hosts are disappointed to deliver it and often add a negative slant to it. Used to be a daily listener.

What happened?
Why the sudden doom and gloom? Where was this in 2023 and 2024? Massive layoffs and inflation during those two years and it seems you all shrugged your shoulders. Now the world is unraveling economically to you guys. Please! Bring back the show to the center.

Here we go again
As we head back in to a recession, I’m back to Marketplace to get me through with no nonsense analysis. Everything Marketplace predicted in 2008 came to pass in the following years. It was a hard time but somehow knowing what was coming made it sting a little less. I’m back for more because, here we go again.

Politics and the economy
I have been listening to marketplace for quite a few years now, decades even, and there seems like there’s more political coverage in Marketplace than before. Well, that’s because the economy has been dramatically politicized. Keep doing what you’re doing marketplace! It’s been nice to have a logical and educated resource that isn’t commercialized. You all are awesome!

Too much bias
I have enjoyed this show for many years and I ignored the leading biases that are prevalent during Trump 1 and now 2. The world is always more nuanced. You were willing to tell us economic problems during Biden were imaginary vibes. Regardless of your hosts’ political views I expect some objectivity. The handwringing is off putting. I suspect you can do better. Your guest who referenced the Tesla protest, i.e vandalism was not challenged. Why is that ever okay?
