If you’re looking for a resource illustrating how the meritocracy has been twisted into a caste system, this podcast is for you! The consultants definitely seem knowledgeable about how to make bright and hardworking normal teenagers from the top 1% (or, more likely, 0.5%) into products elite colleges will like. Pro tips such as how to get a great letter of recommendation from the guidance counselor at your private prep school are precious. If you have the money for elite colleges that offer no merit aid, plus for consultants like these, you’re at the right place. Listen and be impressed with how they can turn your 16-18 year old kid into an ambitious leader with burning, erudite, and altruistic passions—on paper, at least. Of course, armed with these lessons, absolutely nothing is stopping the rest of us from similarly mapping out our kids’ high school careers and ensuring their general teenage interests and talents are connected with laser-precision focus to activities at, for example, a Wharton School summer program or a nonprofit they establish. Such efforts might pay off with some good merit aid at less selective schools. Or, if you’re lower income, apply the lessons here as best you can in hopes your child will benefit from the generous need-based scholarships that elite schools offer in order to justify the outrageous tax expenditures their endowments cost us wage slaves as they focus mostly on the children of the elite. Like NYU business professor Scott Galloway says, top colleges have become luxury brands with artificial exclusivity. This is a game. Listen and learn how to play or, better yet, who you might want to hire to walk you through it.

I think this podcast has really good insight and advice, yet I do feel some of the thoughts and pieces of advice has some prestigious values. Some of the things they talked about and said seemed to really only apply to those who have the opportunities and money to “get ahead” in the college admissions process. While I think this podcast is helpful, I think it’s smart to continue to listen to other podcasts, read other books, and watch videos that have some diverse voices and insights!

Eh…there’s a lot better out there. Host is just okay. Some comments about equity are annoying especially in light of the fact that the purpose of the podcast is to promote a college service that will be used by higher income folks. Say what you want, but don’t be a hypocrite. Having said that, there is some interesting info in these.

I appreciate that the guests are college admissions officers with much experience. That being said, this podcast covers details and details of the college admissions process. As I parent I can listen to these and discern what would be helpful to my curious, rising high school student. However the magnitude of details and some guests really showcasing only the elite of the elite, these can be overwhelming and discouraging. Our rural community does not have admission officer visits, college fairs and the high school counselors are really good at ensuring my students can graduate from high school, but no collegiate preparation. So I really appreciate all of the resources shared on this show. Very informative and from so my quality perspectives. Thank you.

Current host has insufferable vocal fry and often can’t even form a complete sentence for a question. This makes this college consulting business less professional or credible.
