Joe needs to try reading a non-fiction book.
Here’s the dilemma. You’re both charming, articulate people with great chemistry, and when you stay in your lane (commenting on fiction), it’s entertaining. The problem arises when Joe attempts to analyze or analogize any of these make-believe stories in the context of real life, because she has a frame of reference as it relates to: history, economics, politics, the law, science, etc., comparable to a really sheltered eight year old. Her attempts to reference any real life event or field of study when discussing make-believe has all the nuance of a kid on TikTok regurgitating a non-contextualized NY Times headline that someone else told them about before the Times got around to a shadow edit two weeks later! It’s basically just vomiting up half-baked bumped sticker platitudes, or someone else’s half-baked thought. Joe…you’re a good podcaster and seem to know a lot about children’s stories. You’re great at opining about how other people’s make-believe stories make you feel. Stick to that. It’s not that you don’t have your facts straight on occasion. It’s as if your only true frame of reference in general is confined exclusively to other people’s make-believe stories. Learn about some stuff that isn’t rooted in fantasy and form an original opinion about anything other than how other people’s art makes you feel.

Three hours?
Generally enjoy the podcast, but Mallory has a tendency to monologue and or laugh over her cohost or hosts. Please stop. Oh yeah..also the very long pregnant pauses from Mallory.

The Best!
I’ve been listening to these two for years. Mal and Jo provide my favorite commentary on all things George RR Martin. I love their laughter, close friendship (I like both red and green apples btw), and deep dives into George’s art. It’s always fun, insightful, and interesting. It has expanded my appreciation of the GOT, HOTD, and now Dunk & Egg worlds. Great editing on the show too - I always lol at the crow sound when they talk about emails. Keep on keepin on ladies! I’m looking forward to your breakdown of HOTD this summer!

Annoying
They talk over each other and laugh at things that aren’t funny

Discovered these amazing women and their lengthy pods way too late. I’ve needed 3 plus hour pods on all my favorite shows more than I knew!! No better way to drown out your own thoughts than to hear Mal compulsively yell GoT quotes, and Jo say “phrasing” every 5 minutes 💗💗💗

You two are the best
Whenever my wife sees me laughing she asks “are you listening to your girls again?”The answer, of course, is always an affirmative.

Way Too Long
I used to really love this podcast, but it’s ballooned to a ridiculous length. There’s no need for a 4 HOUR podcast on a 30-minute show. Brevity is the soul of wit, ladies. My patience is running thin, and I am very close to unsubscribing.

SPOILERS for unrelated shows
During a GoT/Dunk & Egg episode, one host dropped a bunch of spoilers for the current season of Industry. Acknowledged the off topic conversation as it happened, and no one thought to edit it out in post? what? accidental spoilers across the universe of the show being discussed is one thing, but this was totally out of left field, about an unrelated show currently airing - and frankly unprofessional for a show operating at this level.

Love
Love the podcast, don’t really care for the occasional political diatribe. Otherwise, really enjoy listening!

What did you say?
Could be good. Impossible to follow as they compete with each other, all at once, to speak.

Wonderful women who celebrate friendship and love of genre stories
This podcast rocks! Jo and Malory are enthusiastic and joyful in their reviews of genre stories! They are sensitive to the times we live in, and provide a sense of hope, wonder, and introspection about the shows that are worth watching! Especially loved their coverage of Star Wars “Andor” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms!” Look forward to their podcasts because of their care and thoughtfulness and care for each other!

Best of the Ringer Podcasts
This podcast starring Jo and Mal is the best out of the Ringer podcasts. Rewatchables and BS Podcast and Ringerverse are all very good but my gosh I love Jo and Mal together. Jo and Mal’s should always do podcasts together.
Jo is well versed in fandom and so is Mal. I love Mal’s humor about sex positive individuals in fandoms. This is the podcast to listen to: deep and fun and beat by beat recaps of shows like House of the Dragon and Stranger Things.

Sorry!! Great Pod!! ❤️❤️
Losing a loved one is never easy, it always sucks. Sorry about Halo. Hope you feel better soon, sincerely. Sorry about any rude message I’ve sent about how I like the Game of Thrones ending. I’m not even mad at you guys, you’re nicer to it than most. Great job, keep it up. Love you, girls! Hope my daughter turns out just like you guys! But she’s free to do her own thing obviously lol

Best podcast(ers) ever!
Joanna and Mal are my all time favorite podcasters, and I listen to a lot of podcasts! They’re funny, smart, insightful, and really get to the emotional core of the content we love. Any day there’s a new pod from House of R is a great day for me. So glad they’re covering Buffy and I hope someday we’ll get pods from them about Lord of the Rings extended editions, those would be 5 hour long podcasts I couldn’t wait to hear. Love you guys, keep up the amazing work!

New Listener!
I discovered this podcast a few months back and instantly knew I had a new pod to listen to! Love the content and discussions.

Master Class in Fictional Fandom
Mal & Jo are the Gold Standard of fandom podcasting. They are exceptionally passionate, highly intelligent, unmatched in their research and unapologetically heart felt. I doubt there is another podcast in the fandom space that executes to this level. 10/10
On the off chance Mal&Jo see this- you feel like my friends and I adore you! Mal is right about honey/pink apples. Jo you’re a goddess but the only time for a Granny Smith is to make an apple pie. ❤️🥧💚

These two are the best
Listening to these two go from in-depth, nuanced, insightful commentary to pure silliness, sometimes in the space of a single sentence begun by one and finished by the other, is podcasting delight

Always come through for us!
Thank you for getting the latest Stranger Things pod out so fast! The fact that you notice our desire to “talk” with you both about this and worked so hard to get it out to us is SO appreciated! You both are so awesome!

… and now I’m crying
I wish for us all to have the kind of love and friendship that Mal and Joanna have for each other. Not only did they make great picks on the top 10 episode this year, but I love how their friendship shines through.
Wishing you healing vibes, Jo!

So smart. So warm.
These two are so insightful and funny and incisive but also kind. And warm. Love 'em.

Big fan
Mal is the best. Love their passion. Also enjoy some Baltimore mentions sprinkled in!

Great pod but wrong Back to the Future
Great pod love it. But, So. Had to reach out after OCD triggered from referencing the wrong back to the future movie a few times. BTTF3 is in the Wild West-almost completely. Rather-BTTF2 is where Marty ends up in the shadows at the 1955 dance trying to get the sports almanac back from young Biff.

Friendship goals
Wish I could downvote the people who rate this pod 1 star bc they’re so dead inside that they can’t handle the pure joy and love and laughter between Jo and Mal as they dissect the nerdy things we all love to an unbelievably deep level. Don’t yuck on these yums.

Wicked: For Good
“Drop. That. House!” is proof that Joanna is the greatest hire The Ringer ever made.

Pure Nerdy Joy
Just two friends who clearly very much enjoy each other’s company talking about very nerdy things. Love. This show is pure joy.

Ugh! The cackling
The constant cackling and giggling makes this pod unlistenable. It’s too bad because they otherwise are knowledgeable.

I can’t wait for the season 2 Buffy deep dive
I don’t always watch the shows you all watch - so sometimes I go weeks without listening. And I realized I’m really excited for the second season recap/deep dive of Buffy.

The Best Around
This podcast is fantastic - I have watched things they cover just to listen. Some other comments have said Mallory’s laughter is a bit much. To them I say, 1) do you hate genuine joy?! If not, 2) give it some time, it might grow on you! And if that fails, 3) reassess your answer to number 1!

Proud to be a Bad Baby
A juicy, deep dive podcast that everyone will enjoy.

Old Bay Saves Lives
As an Alien-loving Ruben from Maryland, I’ve never felt more seen than when Mallory requested Old Bay seasoning be poured directly into her bloodstream in the event she is overcome by a facehugger.
Endlessly entertaining, well-researched, and passionate. Keep up the great work, House of R!

For those who enjoy friendship and fandom
I honestly love this podcast for 2 big reasons. Fandom and friendship. I love being a fan of my favorite shows, flaws and all. I love how much they get into what they watch, they get into all the fun details and yet give themselves permission to laugh a little at the missteps that media takes from time to time. But never in a way that feels like they are punching down. Love me a deep dive! Also I just love their friendship, I love how much they love each other and laugh at and with each other. And Mallory, the intersectionality of earnestness and inappropriateness- I love for it. I fall asleep listening to it and wake up and replay to pick up where I left off lol.

It’s a Vibe
Listen, like the title says, House of R is a vibe. Deep, knowledgeable pop culture dives by two extremely intelligent, funny, and charmingly geeky hosts.
Do they sometimes spend a half hour on tangents that have nothing to do with the topic of the pod? Yes. Does that make it any less entertaining or fun? Not to me, it makes it even better.
I’ve been following Mal since the After the Thrones days, Binge Mode is one of the best podcasts ever made, and her specific, heartfelt nerdiness is a reflection of my own. I love stories. To me, they’re as important as food, water, shelter, and love. Mal and Jo are the same way, and every episode is a journey we get to go on together.
I could go on about the times House of R, Binge Mode, and XRV have carried me through tough stretches, but I’ll just say that I love this show, I love Mal & Jo. Never change ladies.

So wanted another Buffy rewatch
Rubin’s constant laughter while she is talking particularly at her own comments makes this almost impossible to listen to.
So disappointed 55
I want to like this but…
So, I’m looking for a great deep dive of Alien: Earth, but the host is a bit much on my eardrums. She’s extremely knowledgeable, but I hate the way she constantly interrupts the male host. I mean, I feel like he might as well not be on the show. She’ll him ask a question, then proceed with a long ramble. I understand that she has A LOT to say, but maybe just have your own show or something, sheesh. I’m giving it a second try tonight, but I feel like I gave this a HOTD try and felt the same way. Tone it down a bit, sis. Other people need a chance to talk, too.

good deep dive could scale down some laughter
I really do like this pod and both hosts have a great rapport and are knowledgeable. I would like to also agree with those that say Mallory’s laughter feels extreme and is the one bummer of the pod. Still want her to enjoy herself but if there is anyway to scale the laughter runs down. Love Jo.

Amazing duo
I think Mal and Jo are two of the most wonderful, intelligent, professional, and thoughtful voices out there. Give them a listen, it'll be hard not to smile.

I love these girlies!!!
Mal and Jo are so incredibly passionate and intelligent people but when it comes to genre film, tv, and literature, they are top tier. I feel like I’m sitting down with friends every time I listen. Totally recommend!

Passion is what it’s all about
The podcast is exceptional because of the passion and hard work both Mal and Joanna put into their craft. It’s clear they’re passionate about everything they talk about, and that might rub some people the wrong way but for me it’s exactly what I’m looking for.
Not sure I understand the other reviews mentioning the hate for Mallory’s laugh/voice.
Msteinb94
The only 2+ hour podcast I’ll ever listen to
Jo & Mal are among the most knowledgeable, insightful & passionate podcasters out there. With some other podcasts I sometimes think “anyone can do this”, but never with them - they demonstrate what it’s like to be a master of their craft. Pick any hot show (Squid Game, HotD, etc) & their podcast is easily the best out there. LOVE LOVE LOVE them so much

Enjoy Jo but Mallory Makes This Show Torture On The Ears
Please lower Mallory’s mic or put a muzzle on her. Jo is hands down one of the best pop culture entertainment podcasters. It’s just sad that she is tied to stunted youth and dead weight that is Mal.

What a treat to find two of my favorite film critics host their own podcast
How have I lived so many years not being aware that they had their own podcast? I’ve delighted at hearing them speak on other podcasts and the ability to listen to them speak about films in long form, radiating palpable enthusiasm for different points and people, is such a wellspring of joy.

My Child Is Starting to Recognize Mal and Jo’s voices
I listen to House of R so often my 1 year old is starting to recognize the show.

Bane is all THAT
Especially Nolan’s Bane, as embodied by Tom Hardy.
To quote Mal: Iconic!

If I could only listen to one podcast for the rest of my life…
It would be House of R. Love Mal and Jo.
