Love it
Amazing hosts, very thoughtful. I never care about it when they talk about the box office performance of a movie or the studio context of the films as much as they do. Because I don’t care about that. But hey, rock on!!

Amazing duo
I think Mal and Jo are two of the most wonderful, intelligent, professional, and thoughtful voices out there. Give them a listen, it'll be hard not to smile.
jmanwordup
I love these girlies!!!
Mal and Jo are so incredibly passionate and intelligent people but when it comes to genre film, tv, and literature, they are top tier. I feel like I’m sitting down with friends every time I listen. Totally recommend!

Passion is what it’s all about
The podcast is exceptional because of the passion and hard work both Mal and Joanna put into their craft. It’s clear they’re passionate about everything they talk about, and that might rub some people the wrong way but for me it’s exactly what I’m looking for. Not sure I understand the other reviews mentioning the hate for Mallory’s laugh/voice.

The only 2+ hour podcast I’ll ever listen to
Jo & Mal are among the most knowledgeable, insightful & passionate podcasters out there. With some other podcasts I sometimes think “anyone can do this”, but never with them - they demonstrate what it’s like to be a master of their craft. Pick any hot show (Squid Game, HotD, etc) & their podcast is easily the best out there. LOVE LOVE LOVE them so much

Enjoy Jo but Mallory Makes This Show Torture On The Ears
Please lower Mallory’s mic or put a muzzle on her. Jo is hands down one of the best pop culture entertainment podcasters. It’s just sad that she is tied to stunted youth and dead weight that is Mal.

What a treat to find two of my favorite film critics host their own podcast
How have I lived so many years not being aware that they had their own podcast? I’ve delighted at hearing them speak on other podcasts and the ability to listen to them speak about films in long form, radiating palpable enthusiasm for different points and people, is such a wellspring of joy.

My Child Is Starting to Recognize Mal and Jo’s voices
I listen to House of R so often my 1 year old is starting to recognize the show.

Bane is all THAT
Especially Nolan’s Bane, as embodied by Tom Hardy. To quote Mal: Iconic!

If I could only listen to one podcast for the rest of my life…
It would be House of R. Love Mal and Jo.

This *is* the podcast you’ve been searching for.
Mal and Jo are a balm for the soul.

I love this cast !
House of R is one of my favorite podcasts. Why you ask? Because nobody does deep dives like these two. They are entertaining, well informed, and have a beautiful way to express their thoughts and feelings about the content that they cover. Love you guys!

TOO MUCH USELESS LAUGHING!
I swear Mal is purposely being obnoxious with her laughing and long winded breathing at this point. I love the banter and topics discussed but omg her long cackling laughing at literally everything and that long winded sucking of the air is so goddamn annoying.
Taderrrr
Too much cackling for no obvious reason
Having fun is fine, but there is SO MUCH non-sensical cackling/laughing it’s very hard to enjoy the podcast. I listened to several podcasts but I had to quit. Mallory cackles way too much at every freaking thing! Very annoying. I’m done.

Extend the Joy
Whenever I finish a piece of content I love and I’m looking to just continue to bask in the glow of this piece of art, Mal and Jo have the perfect recipe of deeply thoughtful analysis, incredible passion, and a dash of humor. I find they have a bias to seek out the positives of the content, which I massively prefer (I’m not looking for reasons I was wrong to enjoy something that would taint future watches), and I get an additional 2-4 hours of joyful entertainment that really enhances/rewards the subsequent rewatches (RoP, HotD, Andor, Yellowjackets, etc.). Thank you both for all the hard work and the great hang.

I miss listening to the pod! 🫶
I haven't had a chance to listen in a while as I'm not into Andor, The Last of Us and Yellowjackets. But I can't wait for the next thing to come along so I can tune in! I love these two so much.

Amazing gift
I watch Rogue 1 and feeling like I loved it and needed more. Then I see “Rogue 1 thru the lens of Andor” what an amazing treat to see. You two are in tune to humans and Droids

Show BFFs
Joanna and Mallory are the BFF’s I get to discuss my show obsessions with every week! They give the most thoughtful and in depth analysis of the shows/movies they cover that you can find in any podcasts AND they crack me up. Also, I love their friendship, enjoy the tangents and I appreciate their dynamic. This content makes me feel like I’m discussing my favorite shows with old friends and that’s part of the magic of their show! Of note, because I enjoy their content so much, I decided to give Andor another try (didn’t get past the first episode of season one initially) and I’m excited to catch up on their season 2 coverage. Viva La 3 hour episode!!!

All stars for Jo
LOVE JO on all her pods and especially when she does interviews! Mallory needs to stop rambling. The 3 stars are a 5 star for Jo 🤩
Dr Daemon
Mallory tries to use big words to sound smart, but she’s not.she sounds unhinged to me, like Don.ald
Wow, to me Mallory sounds absolutely unhinged. She reminds me of the former pres., Do.n. . . In my mind, my nickname for Mallory is the Do n..a.ld. . . . . Absolutely unhinged and hysterical. In my opinion she’s not smart at all. Especially when she misuses those big words trying to sound smart. To me, she also sounds unhinged and pretty hysterical at times in the way she talks and rants.

5 hour pod for the Andor finale?? We're ready

Good cake, too much frosting
Some personal banter among hosts is always good to help facilitate conversation. But the ratio of banter to analysis/commentary is way off and makes getting to and enjoying their excellent insights difficult.

Incredibly Insightful
I live for Jo & Mal’s deep dives. Their depth of knowledge when delving into lore and canon is superior to all other pods. That being said, two things I’ll never get used to are Mal’s bazooka-like laugh and her excessive deep breathing. She inhales and exhales like she’s actively doing yoga at all times. Sis needs to relax with that.

I love when they go long!
Plenty of one-hour recaps out there, but Jo and Mal are my favorite pod companions, and I’m here for their lengthy and deeeeeep breakdowns. Thank you for every minute!!

So much love
So much love for this show, these phenomenal ladies. Attention to detail is their love language and their deep dives offer so much. I’m always honored and excited to follow along listening to them while watching the shows I love . Thanks for this pod and for just being you ♥️

Maybe a little less
These two looooove to hear themselves talk. 3 hours for a recap of one episode of one show? I want to like them but they are just really proud of how “clever” they are and it’s grating.

Last of Us S2E2
I love your show, but being late delivering the S2E2 review is killing me.

Female friendship
Joanna and Mal’s friendship is the highlight of this show. I love the expert analysis of my various shows from two industry insiders, but I enjoy even more these two women talking about companionship, togetherness, and the love they have for each other. It’s so rare to have two nerdy women be so authentically themselves in male-dominated nerd podcasting. Definitely recommend.

Smart & Entertaining!
Really enjoying the Yellowjackets coverage (possibly more than the season itself…). Joanna is such a deep well of pop culture knowledge, and both she and Mal make such interesting connections - so fun to listen to them break down their theories.

Complain complain complain
Way too much complaining. Who wants to listen to a show of people talking about shows they don't like?

More Yellowjackets ,pleeeeeease
I have to listen to other podcasts cover them because you’re so far behind :(

Mal laughing
The excessive laughing of Mal on the Yellowjacket recap is annoying. Edit it out. Really like Jo’s takes she deserves a more for professional host.

The elite
I’ve listened Mallory for years (ever since Binge Mode w Jason) and I now also adore Jo. 💕Like many other listeners, I will watch TV shows just because they are covering them. It feels like I’m listening to my best friends talk about my favorite TV shows in a brilliant and thoughtful way and I’m always impressed by the insights they have. They’re also just so fun!! my only wish is that I wish they had covered Pachinko because I would’ve loved to hear their thoughts and insights on the themes and the filmography.

Top Pod
This is one of my favorite podcasts (if not my favorite). I wish Mal and Jo recapped every show I watch and I could listen to them every day. It makes the watching so much more enjoyable and enriching. I’ve watched shows solely because they are discussing them. I have laughed and cried along with them. I felt almost famous when an e-mail of mine was read on the pod and suggestion used. Cannot recommend more. 10/10 no notes. Love the bad baby life.

Your inane political parroting is too much
Jo, what must it be like to have a wealth of knowledge about completely imaginary pop culture, yet lack even a rudimentary grasp of the world around you? You periodically attempt to veer into political and/or socioeconomic laments on this podcast, but it’s rare enough that I can forgive the “13 year old on TikTok” level of nuance with which you regurgitate other people’s half-formed sentiments. Unfortunately, your most recent hot take on “populism” (a word you understand and apply about as well as you do fascism) in relation to the Penguin and how you see it as somehow analogous to the majority of the country watching a system fail at all levels and wanting to return to actual success as a nation (even if it comes at the cost of mean words on Twitter) was a bridge too far even for a pandering dullard such as yourself. Jo…..you earn* a living by giving your opinion on other people’s contributions to the world. You do not contribute yourself, other than opining about the creations of others. Their creations may be subjectively good or bad, but they are at least of consequence. You…as a thinker…as a creator…as a human being in general.. are not. Your babbling attempt to insert your pouty grievances about things you lack even a child’s comprehension of into a discussion about art you had no part in creating is not just annoying….its sad. Your opinions aren’t even your own. They are the opinions you express in exchange for your social pat on the head and cookie as a “good person” within your regional and professional* peer circle. Your opinions are of no consequence. You don’t matter, Jo. No matter how many times you express your age-inappropriate internet slang musings about television dragons or witches, you won’t matter. When you die, your thoughts about other people’s dragon stories will have played as much of a part in shaping the world you leave behind as you did…..which is to say, not even slightly. Read a book that isn’t fiction, Jo….its revelatory.

Perfect for all levels of fandom
They bring so much knowledge and fun to every show/movie they cover, it’s a true delight to follow along these big releases with Mal and Jo! Highly recommend for any and all nerds

Your crassness
Love the infusion of your “crass” humor with the reviews of these movies/TVs

What happened to Mal
I stopped listening for a couple years. I didn’t love the new format of the show. I’ve been enjoying Agatha quite a bit so I thought I would listen to Mals thoughts because she is one of my favorite people to listen to when she loves something. Instead it was Jo constantly reining her in, and not even talking about the episode before going into theories? I used to listen for Mals thoughts, not what Reddit thinks. It’s too bad The Ringer is wasting her like this. Good thing is I don’t have to listen.

Excellent and Well Informed
This show is almost always a good listen. 9.5/10. But there are often times full 2-3 minute periods where I have to fast forward because they are just laughing at each other with zero content and it's wild wild wild intolerable. And then it's back to 9.5/10 super informed very engaging awesome.

5 stars for accent work alone
It was the Penguin/Sofia Falcone accent work that reminded me to finally rate and review. Brava!

Cringe and sophomoric
If they were two unattractive men instead of woman they would be canceled for their cringey sophomoric gibberish.

Tire shop crew
We at the tire center have this podcast to thank for the best conversations about hobbits and dragons we could ever imagine. No more small talk or shallow water cooler conversations throughout the week. The lovely hosts of the house of R know their stuff and verbalize what some of us can’t or didn’t know we felt. Often endearing but always sharp Joanna and Mallory are the best guides!
Moviefix
Love the show but . . .
I’m a big fan of Joanna’s work. Her analysis and attention to detail set a high bar. I’m only giving 4 stars due to the constant giggling and laughing. Once in a while is fine but it’s almost excessive. I’m glad the cohosts have great chemistry and seem to enjoy each other’s company. Please continue to deep dive into the material and save the continuous cackling for the edit floor.
