<3Thereās just no podcast that compares <3
My 5 young kids all know Shaye and Angela by name. In our full days of starting a family farm business and rv living while building our house I donāt have time to listen to much else but, as a long time listener, ALWAYS have time for Homemaker Chic. I have stood in the kitchen crying while Shaye tells me āyou can change!!!ā and every year when we return to Door County where weāve vacationed since I was 7 Iām hoping to run into Angela on the beach, (just there last week and left saying to my husband ā*sigh* another year where I DIDNāT run into Angela and get to tell her Iād rather meet her than Nigella or the Princess of Wales.ā)
This podcast, ladies, had inspired me more than I could ever, ever say. In my faith, my gardening, me homemaking, motherhood, countless areas. If I never see you this side oā the grave I will someday tell you how much youāve meant to me and my family!

A Godsend to all Women
I canāt say enough good things about this podcast. I laugh, cry, and cherish my life as a woman, wife, mother, and homemaker along with Angela and Shay. This podcast was introduced to me when I was a young mother and it has helped shape my philosophy of motherhood. I have learned to be a better Christian, woman, wife, mother, and keeper of my home because of these women. I love this podcast. Thank you, Angela and Shay!

Not as good as it used to be
I loved this podcast once upon a time. It seems they are just recycling through old material and donāt have anything new to talk about. Shay dominates the conversation and interrupts constantly. I may be shelving this podcast. Sad because it used to be my favorite and I recommended it to all my friends.

Become a big advertisement
Iāve loved HC for many years, but I feel like lately it has become one big advertisement. Makes it cringy and hard to listen to any of their content when they are continually pulling in talking about dry farm wines, American blossom linen and toupes and co. Feels unauthentic at this point :(

Long time listener
This show has truly evolved over the past few years. At times there have been more structured tips, and at other there have been more candid and personal conversations. I can appreciate both, as everything seems very timely in accordance with what Shaye and Angela are going through at that moment. I believe that, as Christians, we have a duty to speak from the heart when we hear that calling and that is exactly what they do here. I truly hope they continue this podcast and those heartfelt conversations when the spirit leads them to do so. As a side note- I love the gardening and homesteading episodes!

Always look forward to new episode
I understand the negative reviews of this show and I also always look forward to a new episode. But they rarely get them out on Mondays when they say theyāre going to! No other podcast I listen to has this issue. And I bet they donāt even read these reviews

Refreshing
Candid about their own struggles as homemakers, funny and heartfelt in building women up to love their families and their homes. This podcast is a gem for Christian women who need a good laugh & to be reminded of the value of wives, mothers & homemakers!

Whatās up with the inappropriate laughing all the time?
Once again, Shayeās off the rails, hyena-like laugh at everything everyone says (including herself ), distractsfrom being able to listen to Angela and Darla who are trying to have an adult conversation. Shayeās lack of self restraint comes off as rude and disrespectful. If itās nerves, she really needs to find a solution. Otherwise donāt have guests on the show because she just about ruins it every time.

They irritate me but at least they are digestible
I like listening to these women. I personally find the recent trend of ātradwifeā lifestyle to be alienating, nauseating, and bitter. Iām not talking about wanting to be a good mother and wife, Iām talking about the women in this movement that use Christianity in the most fanatical way possible, taking normal gender roles to the absolute extreme and coming off as total nut jobs. What happened to this country that made everyone so insane? Why canāt we just be moderate common sense people? The reason I like listening to Shaye and Angela is because I feel like at least they try to bring value to women without being off putting. Yes they discuss their faith, but I have no problem with that as long as it doesnāt come off as trying to put others down. I like that Shaye says sheād rather bring people together than cause separation. I like Angelaās spunky attitude and practical life advice. I like the banter between them. Relatively speaking, these two are more normal than some of the other homemaking content out there. Yes they irritate me sometimes but at least they come off as semi normal people who are trying to be good humans and add value in the content they provide. I hope they keep going with the show, I find it to be a fun listen and enjoy learning from their collective experience.

Definitely NOT CHIC!
This podcast is a disaster in many ways, but the title in and of itself is extremely deceptive. These women seem to suffer from extreme cases of self idolatry and in turn they are extremely off-putting. The way theyāre trying to sell luxury at the same time whining about how impoverished they once were/are seems rather insincere to what I assume are their target audience. Didnāt take long for me to unfollow. This is a hard pass for me. We have enough phonies in the world trying desperately to make money off of what is ātrendyā. Did I mention⦠NOT CHIC!

Worth Every Minute
Angela & Shaye are trailblazers in all things femininity, homemaking, & healthy living! They bring the joy back to womanhood that has been lost in our culture. Their podcast has helped me prepare for my vocation as a wife and mother. I owe them and their families many prayers of blessing! Thank you.

These Women Are My People
I feel a little outdated being only 32, but Iāve been listening since I was about 29 and unmarried. Now Iām married and a FTM with my 1 year old and I love listening to them even more. Theyāre tips, tricks, quotes, inspirational rants (and theyāre negative rants š), helpful things for families and parents is my life blood. I saved Shayeās Christmas gift idea (something they want, something they need, etc.), and saved Charlotte Mason to possibly get into as our family grows and gets older. They are so relatable and REAL. Theyāre like my womenās group on the go. Love, love, love them. š¤ Wish they had a Substack or something where they could discuss all their conspiracy theories and other āinappropriateā content.

Donāt Ever Leave Us
You two have been the absolute best thing to happen to me since I found you. Each time I listen, Iām inspired to go and do, to slow down and revel in the beauty of this life, reminded of the holy work Iām called to in my home. Itās not always glorious, but it can be infused with beauty, and it is always valuable. Iām so immeasurably thankful to have found kindreds.

This podcast shapes lives.
I followed Shaye Elliot for eight years now. I was one of the first people to hear the podcast, and I listened to every single episode. Iām 23 stay at home momma with three children and a husband that works full-time. Let me tell you, without these girls⦠Iām not sure how my house could function properly. They really showed me that the LAUNDRY matters. My JOB matters. Every small detail matters!

Have learned a lot but take it with a grain of salt
Iāve learned a lot about homemaking from this show, however if you donāt pay close attention to what youāre paying close attention to, some noise and a lot of opinion stated as utter fact (sometimes as it relates to theology, life and death, I can go on) creeps in and you can turn it off feeling really confused about what just happened. Ultimately I have had to stop listening because Shaye is a textbook martyr and the amount of shame for any woman, mom, really anyone, not being one too, is insane. It is created with a narrow lens.

Keep Going Angela and Shaye!!
The reoccurring message that these two ladies share is this- everything is just for a season. Both ladies have been through a great deal of life and have hope because of their faith and the community of family and friends they have fostered around them. They are not perfect and certainly not scripted, but overflowing with joy, true joy.
I hope to be a customer to more of your sponsors one day. You two make all the things sound so lovely. For now, my wine glass is happily full- of safe clean drinking water, lol. Cheers :)

Taking issue with this podcast
I have nothing inherently negative to say about homemaker chic. I do believe the reason so many take issue with this podcast is given the term āhomemakerā is the first word in the podcast title, most would assume this applies to all homemakers on the spectrum. However, Shaye & Angela are extremely similar in their tastes, & their entrepreneurial āinfluencerā lifestyle, & this can lead to very narrow views on very broad topics across the board. I myself have not been necessarily āoffendedā as some have been by their controversial comments at times, but have rather chuckled at their banter & friendship that has saturated this podcast in a beautiful way. I do however believe that since they seldom have guests on, their views or rather brash statements on a variety of subjects are never brought into question. Itās wonderful to hear yourself talk for an hour to someone who agrees with you wholly on each & every topic & never holds a mirror up to your statements. That being said, Shaye & Angela birthed this podcast & can say whatever they wish. Iām stepping away from this podcast because of the hypocrisy that I have felt in this podcast several times. They fully endorse expensive & quite lavish products that most in my very own circle could not even hope to afford. Yet they bash women who prioritize having nicer vehicles or a Stanley cup perhaps(this one blew my mind. Especially after they endorsed a rather expensive CLOTHES iron $500! To be exact!) Everyoneās priorities are vastly different. I believe this is completely disregarded in homemaker chic. Some of the broad statements they make simply are not true for everyone. I also dislike Shayeās ugly comments about the south & southern women. Their truth is simply not every American womanās truth. My mamaw cooked on an old 1930s stove for 6 children & ironed clothes the old fashioned way with an iron that was heated on an old wood fire stove. Sometimes these ladies need to check their privilege. Is it nice to have the finer things in life? Absolutely! Do you need to be boujee to be a good, great homemaker? Absolutely NOT.
In the end, my only issue with this podcast is their apparent lack of self evaluation & hypocrisy thatās sprinkled throughout.

Please do not take health advice from these two
I genuinely enjoy aspects of this podcast. But the health advice would be criminal if they held a license. Fluoride is toxic according to themābut they fail to mention that clove oil is a scheduled carcinogen. The dose makes the poison. They are complete chemophobes who lack the education to know any better. The people they say to follow are utter quacks and that they would promote some of this baloney is shameful. And you should hear what they have to say about geneticsāif people didnāt hang on their every word itād be comical!

My top podcast for over three years
I have been listening to this podcast since summer of 2023ā¦I originally found Homemaker chic in though Lisa Booneās podcast. I am a podcast girl all the way! That being said, I usually go in phases of really liking a podcast and then forgetting about it after a while. This is the only podcast that I have consistently stuck to ever since I started listening. I used to carpool to work with my sister and we would turn on the latest homemaker chic episode; it was the best part of our day! I find Shaye and Angela so incredibly genuine and relatable. I always wait with anticipation for a new episode to come out. When I started listening to the show, I was unmarried, in college, and living at home. Now I am recently married and learning to develop and maintain a little home of my own. Shaye and Angela instilled in me a love for homemaking and creating beauty in the world around me. I canāt stop recommending them to my friends and family!

Theology according to Shaye
Oh my goodness! The garbage spewing out of Shayeās mouth makes this show so cringe. Theology, church history, nuns living in a conventāsheās got it all figured out & confidently states āthatās not what Jesus wants us to doā. š

Love, except for occasional Protestant nonsense
Shaye literally thinks sheās holier than a Catholic sainted nun. Iām not even Catholic and this aspect of the show irritates me so much! But she looooves Italian culture šExcept when itās, āew, Catholicism.ā Poser.
Please let Angela talk more⦠I canāt hear the words āpocketā or āpostureā or āveinā one more time. Angela is classy (without shying away from controversy! Sheās a spitfire in her own way but so much more articulate.)

Bring back themes!
I have listened to every episode, and I love both Shaye and Angela. I do feel like the last couple of seasons have been too loosely structured, however. I like listening to podcasts with a clear focus, and the freestyle episodes are just too all over the place to really present any solid takeaways. Sometimes the background noise is too loud, as well. I think if the next season is super intentional, theyāll bring back their original audience who has been teetering on whether or not to keep listening.

Losing Interest
I really loved this podcast when I first started listening, even if I disagree with most of their health and wellness opinions. Even as an older woman with grown children, I am regularly challenged to do the hard work of making and keeping a home. What is frustrating to me is that for the many paid sponsors they have, the quality of the show just doesnāt seem to match the level of support. They are (lately) unprepared. Asking patrons pay to watch two friends on a video call and yet not have your act together is off putting. (I listen to several higher quality podcasts and none of them make listeners pay to watch the YouTube version of the podcast, so thatās a bit odd to me) I donāt mind the conversational style of the show, but the constant interruptions and lack of preparation are frustrating, not to mention the way they try to moralize their personal choices. Itās not morally superior to buy expensive food. Part of good homemaking is working within the confines of what your personal budget can sustain. You can prepare wholesome meals for your family using conventionally grown/raised food. Iām afraid Iām reaching the end of my tolerance for this podcast, and that makes me sad, because I could really see the value in it in the earlier episodes. This is the first negative review Iāve ever left for a podcast.

Iām not alone.
Thank you Shay and Angela for being right there beside me in the trenches. I live over 1000 miles away from my family so I heavily rely on your support as I go about motherhood and home making. Thank you for the laughter, tears, inspiration, and simple realism.

Updated
I still want to love it, but compared to the older seasons, itās just not what it used to be. My teacher brain makes me want to ask, āIs this your best work?ā because both ladiesā talents and knowledge just arenāt showcased like they used to be. The episodes are unprepared and disjointed rather than having the thoughtfulness, great ideas, and challenges of ā20-ā21. I continue to listen, because there are good nuggets, but wish there was a bit more forethought and acknowledgement that it isnāt just a phone call.

Not what it used to beā¦
I used to really enjoy this podcast, and get so much inspiration and encouragement from it. Sadly, itās really gone off the rails. Shaye and Angela spend so much of their time judging and complaining and really seem to be phoning it in with even being able to stay on topic.

Itās the Judgement for Me
I started listening after leaving my job to stay home with my first child. Iāve watched the Elliott Homestead on YouTube for years. I was very interested in what Shaye and Angela had to share about the art of homemaking and appreciated their message about the value of this important role and taking your job seriously. Iāve started āchoosing my hardā which means getting up earlier and looking put together. Iām more productive and generally more cheerful about this role that has a lot of repetition and butt wiping.
Iāve listened to more than half the episodes while doing chores around the house, but Iām unsubscribing. They have some good tips but itās getting harder to āspit out the bonesā as Shaye says. Theyāre not afraid of getting canceled because they know their audience:
-white
-homeschooling
-Christian
-anti-vaxxers/science deniers
-conservative
-libertarian
-conservative
These conversations are not inclusive of BIPOC people, members of the LGBTQ community, people who are poor, or people who are fat (heaven forbid!).

For Husbandsā¦
As a husband, this podcast has re-birthed my marriage. No exaggeration. Having listened for 2 years, Iām a better father to our 3 children & I understand my wife better than I have during our decade+ of marriage. These beautiful women have also been a source of inspiration to me personally. Iād been far too fixated on the āmacroā things of this world⦠realizing now that true satisfaction is found within our home, doing the routine tasks, cooking alongside my wife, homeschooling our children together, reestablishing our faith together as a family, etc. Dear wives, I urge you to listen to Homemaker Chic without your earbuds⦠you may be surprised by the responses of your husbands, should they listen-in. Thank you Shay & Angela:)

Use to love it
Iāve been listening and following them since the beginning and loved them. Lately Iāve found myself offended on several occasions including the comments about vegans. Iām a Christian vegan of 23 years (and yes thatās ok⦠Romans 14:3) and Iāll put my physical condition and lab results up against theirs any day. Iām a RN and homeopathic nutritionist. Yes! Vegans not only can live more than 20 years ladies, they thrive! Iām not deficient in protein or any other nutrients. Zero health issues, lots of energy, not on any prescriptions and Iām in my 50ās. So please, stop being so judgmental about people who donāt eat the way you do or do _____ (whatever) as you do. You come across as know-it-alls and maybe, just maybe, you donāt.

Love these ladies!
I have been an avid listener since day, one and still now, look forward to their episodes weekly. I enjoy the friendly banter, troubleshooting common household problems, and keeping it real with the day to day momming/Homestead life. I also feel deeply encouraged and excited when the episode is over, ready to go out and be present for my family and this life we are building.

Used to be wonderful!
Like others have mentioned, this show used to be amazing! I can appreciate the lack of filter with sharing perspectives and ideas, I donāt think people should censor themselves by any means and this is their show after all! My concern is that the opinions often seem to be a slip of the mask. As a believer, I can appreciate the faith conversations they tackle whether I agree or not. My worry, as others have mentioned is how often they talk negatively about other people and experiences. Angela seems to be incredibly judgmental of most people- the check out cashier asking if she has a loyalty card, people dressed to attend a concert, bathing suits people wear, the sound of refrigerators, and comments constantly on how other people inconvenience her. How is this Christ-like? Iām an opinionated lady too but this goes far beyond personal preferences and is often harsh and demeaning. Itās honestly really hard to listen to! I donāt think they mean to come across like this, but it is not a good look. Really hoping they can get a little more organized and prepared to share the content they are so equipped to share instead of complaining so much.

LOVE show. Hate wine segments haha
This is my favorite show of all. Itās funny but always has good ideas and conversation I do get really tired of the wine segments. If they have a season sponsor, who is not dry farm wines, why must we always hear 15 minutes of dry farm winds information every episode

Generally like it!
I love this podcast immensely, however I have one critique. I am a practicing Catholic and there have been several times where the hosts briefly discuss information about Catholicism incorrectly. Itās not an issue to discuss religion by any means⦠but please donāt say things that arenāt true about it other religions.
Otherwise, itās motivating to me in my current state of life of being a stay at home Mom!
