Favorite podcast
Cole has made something truly special. I listen to a lot of podcasts and this is by far my favorite. I’ve been able to get so much more out of music I love and learn about music I didn’t know that has become music I love.

I loved the Radiohead dissect of in rainbows. Wish they did more Radiohead albums.

Deep Dives that are equally engaging and informative !!
Have loved tearing through the seasons of this podcast! Cole is incredibly insightful and easy to listen to! Really enjoyed the In Rainbows season and gaining an EVEN DEEPER appreciation of an already-masterful album.
Even the supplemental episodes (Song Drafts and the like) are entertaining and a fun with the co-host/buddies that Cole brings in.
Full discretion— I was even motivated into finally leaving a review after one of the most uncharacteristic moments of the pod:
During this year’s recent ‘Song Draft of the Century’ episode, there’s a break wherein Cole and Charles have a short downtime together, and Cole gives an earnest recommendation of quite literally the most formative text I’ve ever had the immense fortune of stumbling upon in my own brief Journey:
the Tao te Ching.
Not much more to say but iykyk.
But I THOUGHT I had noticed a certain kind of Stillness behind some of Cole’s insights..
Bravo good sir on spreading the Good Word of the Way.
(I was going to say that it’s not mentioned enough; but in true Tao fashion, I think it is in fact found by the exact right people at the exact time they are meant to) 🙃
But in summation— Keep up the incredible work and thank you for ALL that you do!! 🙏

Big
The way you spoke about how BIG the Rosalía album is to you brought me to tears. I not only agreed with that sentiment but also I felt such a kindred spirit with this overwhelmed sensation of loving something so deeply it’s nearly impossible to put into words. Thank you💙

This podcast is amazing! Appreciate the way you analyze and describe the potential intention of the music companied with the lyrics. I too believe this new Rosalia album is a masterpiece, lovely to hear things I’ve thought of and learn new ideas on the meaning. This industry is saturated with so much music, it’s refreshing to hear an art piece that has so much human love and attention to it. Thank you for sharing your initial thoughts!

From one recovering music critic to another
I don’t review podcasts often, but I had to recognize Dissect for the recent super fun, super informative Last Song Standing season about the best albums of the 21st century. I like the idea of Dissect’s normal seasons—diving into one album for a long stretch—but the narration tends to feel really dry. Cole and Charles’s conversations, on the other hand, range from awestruck to petty to tender. Really made me feel something. I’m so grateful to this show for reconnecting me with some of the best music of my lifetime. (P.S. No way Lemonade is a better album than 4, self-titled, or Renaissance. 😋)

Love this podcast
Such a fan of this podcast. I love hip hop/rap, but my favorite season was Radiohead In Rainbows. What a masterpiece of a season. Agree with others who have shared it would be awesome for Cole to deep dive into albums from other genres.

Radiohead
I’m a Radiohead fan, but they’re not always my first choice when I reach for music. Still, I listened to Dissect’s entire In Rainbows season in one sitting—completely captivated. This is the most thorough, thought-provoking analysis I’ve ever heard on an album.
The host’s carefully constructed words and attention to even the smallest nuance left no detail overlooked. Every note, every lyric, and their interplay were examined with such precision that I felt transported—blown away by how vividly the music came alive through his descriptions.
Masterfully composed, the podcast strikes the perfect balance of depth and accessibility, guiding listeners of all levels through the journey without losing anyone along the way. Whether you’re a casual listener or a diehard Radiohead fan, this season is an experience worth having.

So Be It
Love the show but was a bit let downed by the Clipse episode. I wish this was a normal solo episode as I felt the addition of Charles threw things off. The guest host was all over the place with his takes. It seemed like whenever Cole tried to answer one of his questions he was interrupted. I get the excitement but for me couldn’t really savor it because of the interruptions. Especially towards the end when the topic of Pharrell chorus features were being discussed.

Have a conversation please
Please, just get someone else on the pod with you and don’t rely on a script. Zero personality. It’s interesting but becomes boring after an episode or two.

Amazing and important show
This show is just fascinating and I believe it is so important in drawing links between history and pop culture. Can’t recommend enough. Especially after Kendrick’s Super Bowl reemergence.

Greatest music pod ever created
The Rza once famously said “shorty you ain’t even gotta go to summer school, just pick up the wu tang double cd and you’ll get all the education you need this year”. Well shorty listen to the “mister morale” and Bo Burnam “inside out”seasons and you will get all the education you need friends. Cole and his team have impeccably crafted analysis that is thoughtful, philosophical , passionate and well researched. The current Kendrick season is a 15 hour+ dissertation Kendrick’s egoic journey to self realization co narrated by Eckhart Tolle. He has done Kendrick and hip-hop and the world a great service. I hope everyone listens and learns

Dissect: Radiohead In Rainbows
Cole did such an incredible job with this season! I’ve been a fan of Radiohead for a while, but he made me love them even more. He goes into such incredible depth with the history of each song, and this album has so much to give. I would definitely recommend!

Appreciation
I have loved this pod for years. It has helped me appreciate music and albums that I did not know much about or seek out previously. It also further fueled my love of other albums and the story telling.

I was introduced to the Dissect podcast with Season 11 about Radiohead’s In Rainbows album. I cannot say enough good things about that season. It is the best podcast in every possible way I’ve ever listened to. It made me hunger for more and I was stoked there were 13 other seasons to listen to. Until I started seeing the subjects of those seasons. I have nothing against Kendrick Lamar or Kanye or any of the other artists he has dived deep with in those seasons, nor anything against their fans or fans of those music genres. But those hold zero interest for me. I don’t enjoy listening to the music of those artists and while I’m sure the understanding I would gain from listening to the podcasts about them would help me appreciate them more, the chief problem remains: I don’t like those genres of music. So my ask of this podcast is this, please, I beg you, do more alternative rock or other genres of music. Please expand more!

Top notch
Every year I look forward to a new season of dissect, the amount of research and understanding of each album is staggering! Thanks for always bringing thoughtful discussions of modern music

Analysis and Appreciation
Dissect provides analysis of music that the host appreciates. He is not trying to convince you that his interpretation is correct and differing thoughts you might have are wrong. Rather, we are taken on a journey where facts, history, music and interpretation come together in the best manner possible.
Classic R & B Lover
Essential listening
This podcast has thoroughly inspired me to revisit music I consumed years ago with a fresh perspective and appreciation. I will be listening to all 14 seasons with the hope that many more episodes come our way! Incredible work Cole!
Kendrick’s White Friend
A must listen for hip hop fans
Thanks so much to the host for this show, the breakdowns and explanations help listeners fully understand the works of art that are these albums. Keep it up Cole!

Thank You
I found this podcast after becoming enthralled with trying to understand the mental process of Kendrick Lamar and other rap artist. Every song that is analyzed on the show unpacks so much from the story being told, the musical theory, composition, the basic meaning and symbolism. It’s the type of deep dive I thoroughly appreciate!

Simply the Best Breakdowns
Impossible not to admire rap and hiphop as an artform when dissecting them with the reverence of this podcast. I was wondering why they never covered MMATBS, so thrilled they are now. Worth a thoughtful listen then relisten of the featured artists’ catalogs in context.

Exceptional!
I’ve been following this podcast since it was independent. It helps that I shared the same musical interests from his beginning episodes (Kendrick and Frank Ocean) but the host, Cole, was so thorough and thoughtful in his work that he expanded my musical interests to new artists like Tyler, the Creator and Radiohead. It is very evident that he takes his craft seriously and his knowledge of music is extraordinary! I listen to every episode soon after they come out and I’d highly recommend to everyone!

Amazing find! Worth listening to every episode!
I originally found this searching for a music analysis of the Deftones. I still want to hear a season of that. But regardless, this was a pleasant surprise. The thoughtfulness and work put into the analysis of each album and artist creates a perfect recipe to better appreciation for the music being discussed. I still wanna hear an episode on the Deftones but I love Kendrick, I was okay with Kanye’s music (I still don’t think he’s grown up much since MBDTF), it gave me a deeper appreciation for Tyler the Creator as well as all other artists covered from what I’ve listened to so far. And a better appreciation for the work, emotions, and skill put into a lot of music. Thank you Cole! Keep up the good work!

I love this podcast
I’ve been listening for years to mostly the Kendrick Lamar albums, thank you for giving me a window into the culture of this amazing music. And to have Doechii as the first guest was so epic!!!

Great show, break it off with Spotify
Create analysis and research, definitely helps to understand music from an outside perspective. The whole Spotify connection turns me off though and goes against a lot of the values for artistry and creativity within the show. Not only do they underpay artists but the Trump reception event really showed their true colors. Get out of there Cole and do it on your own!

Super Bowl Dissect?
Ughhhhh I can’t wait for the version of this podcast dissecting that incredible performance yesterday— I’m sure there’s so much nuance I’m not picking up on and can’t wait to hear the masters level thesis analysis! 😍😍😍

Why Mr. Morale matters to me.
I’ve been a longtime listener of Dissect since the IGOR season. And I fell in love with how articulate and thoughtful the writing was toward the not only the music itself, but the subject matter it was encased in.
I quickly went back and listened to everything from the TPaB season onward, and with the release of Mr. Morale following a certain time - I knew it was only a matter of time until Cole and crew would cover it.
This album to be covered is immensely important to not just myself, (Count Me Out made me comfortable with pursuing therapy) but others who have dealt with the complicated issue of race and mental health in this country. A subject matter of which Kendrick covers masterfully.
So altogether, I thank the team and Cole for their careful attentiveness with the music their cover. And eagerly look forward to this upcoming season.

The best dissect podcast ever
I found this podcast through Cole’s review of Flower Boy and quickly digested the rest of the catalogue following suit after finding how versed Cole was at analyzing and positioning rational theories for certain lyrical and musical motifs. No one does it like this. Super excited to hear the full album breakdown of GNX. We all know it’s coming😂

Just Like Us
Cole is just like us. He thinks and feels music with his entire being. He wants to know it all and has the skills to do so. His music background give him insights that escape the common listener and elevate this podcast above all others in the genre. I never thought someone heard music like I do, but he’s just like me. I’m so grateful for you, Cole. I feel
seen and the music finally feels heard.

MF DOOM
I downloaded the DOOM episodes because it’s so great I’ll probably be listening to it forever. That’s a credit to, of course DOOM, and also importantly you! One side clarification / slight criticism…….. You got some of the slang wrong but nobody’s perfect especially when deciphering DOOM lyrics. One I specifically wanted to mention is “Gettin juiced off a duece duece of Coqui. Keep it low key known to pull an okey dokey…..” Coqui is a malt liquor so it’s a 22 ounce bottle of Coqui 900. Okey dokey is slang for being outsmarted, tricked, or played or even set up in some sort. He basically is known for outsmarting or tricking people in his villainous way. Anyway, despite that I learned a lot from these lyric breakdowns and I think the collective did an excellent job. Thank you for creating this content!
