Learning from the variety of architects interviewed on the Design:ED podcast takes requires extra effort to overlook the annoying, self-centered host. Forgiving the host, Erin Prinz, for his insecurities which frequently disrupt an episode with self-centered commentary, general ignorance of the architecture profession, and mildly demeaning interactions with guests is a true distraction from the intended message of the show. The annoying host has hardly evolved during his time on air, and he may never reach a level of maturity appropriate for the show. Prinz had his chance. It’s time for Design:ED to find an appropriate host.

I can count on my hand, the number of episodes that truly provided any value to the listener. These were mostly episodes interviewing architects or small/mid sized firms with sizable influence in their local economies. The host, Aaron, seems to have an unfounded affinity for Ivy League architectural pedigrees, and academic jargon. This podcast does nothing for making architecture attainable for the average individual, rather it continues to propagate an elitist ivory tower view of the architectural profession. While it is occasionally interesting to listen to conversations with architects that have been elevated to the top of our profession, episodes like the one with Diane and Andi from Gensler are incredibly off-putting. Giving them a platform to reiterate, their corporate “holier than thou” mantra also does nothing for our profession. But, were you really lost me was when you interviewed Andrew and Danielle from Architectural Workers United. I by no means believe that the profession is perfect, but giving these propagandists a platform to spout their misinformation and hate is disgusting.

Excellent interviews. I enjoy listening to my favorite architects get real. I have learned so much already listening to this podcast, and I discovered it a few months ago. Thank you!

First, I will applaud Aaron for starting this podcast. I do enjoy hearing from the guests and learning about their history. My hope is Aaron will continue to develop as an interviewer. I find he often interrupts guests, and asks overly long questions. I would suggest omitting phrases such as, “ does that make sense” , “this is probably a stupid question” “blah blah blah” etc. hosting is a craft and I think Aaron can use some improvement which would make the show better.

Great podcast that I frequently listen to! Please bump up that audio of your guests tho, it’s tough to hear them on the road.

I was surprised to find out that, design: ED this architectural topical podcast was not only thought provoking but also personal. It’s a bit of an insight to the way head designers at top architecture firms work. But more importantly, Aaron the hosts tries to find what is rooted in each of his interviewed designers, that is their motive. While not every interviewee is so receptive to this inspection of there past. The interviews that do matter are quite responsive. If not it’s worth nothing more then to be reminded that the path to greatness in the architecture community is not always an easy one. I give this 5 stars as architecture is hard to listen to in general. But here Aaron does a good job of making his conversations entertaining and insightful.

Great podcast surrounding design and more specifically the profession of architecture

This podcast is one of the best podcast about design and building. I love and enjoy listening to it. Thanks

I like how this podcast always talking about how’s the economics of household. It’s somewhat related to everyone. Most interviews were taking about what they had been achieved. Those things are intangible. Floating In the air. Also he has a master of architecture degree. It’s going to be a fun one.

Aaron and team, I truly want to thank you for the great content that you have been producing. I have been thinking about changing careers into architecture or design, and it has been both eye opening and compelling to listen to your thoughtful conversations with an incredible set of guests. I have been trying out a lot of architecture podcasts, and nothing compares. I have been meaning to write a review for a while and was finally inspired to do so after listening to your interview with Pascale Sablan. I appreciate you shining light to a diverse set of leaders in the field. Keep it coming!

Aaron does a great job of bringing a topic to podcasters that is seriously ignored in most mainstream media, architecture. He is a great interviewer and gets a lot of interesting anecdotes from each of his guests.

I’m a recent grad student, and have been working at a firm for over a year now. Lots of great topics, ideas and helpful insights. I’m in California and hope to hear a more broader spectrum of interviews across the United States, as a lot of the info on local Texas related information unfortunately does not help get the full picture of references they speak about. I’m a graduate student at Kansas State University studying Architecture and I couldn’t help it but binge listen to all episodes. Very pertinent questions and variety of guest speakers. I will definitely keep on listening so please keep them coming!

As a former students at UTSOA this is just such a fun revisit of some of my favorite voices that helped me on my way, at least they tried. I’d like to propose a collection of interviews about the late, great professor, Larry Doll. He was such a fixture of the institution, a dreadfully funny person and, of course, a wonderful designer. I’m sure a few probing question to his colleagues about his coming of age story would piece together a portrait of this thoughtful and generous man. Many thanks for all your work on this project! I love the perspectives about other people's education's, especially the ones at East Coast schools and how they relate to my own education at a state school. Great questions, and strong dialogue about how education translates to built work or teaching.

Not only was it a great honor to participate in this podcast series it has also revealed a remarkable lens into the psyches of my peers, friends and great design leaders of our community. I look forward to hearing the next ones. Onwards and upwards!

Really interesting interviews and stories of the profession in Texas, albeit through burnt orange colored glasses. Hope the podcast includes a few of the other architecture schools and their alums in Texas.

The Texas Society of Architects is sloooowly becoming a racially diverse profession and this This podcast needs to include outstanding architects who are also people of color. The interviews are terrific and each architects has a great story to tell, but none of the architects in this podcast to date has overcome the barriers that people of color face every day and every step of the way on their journey towards becoming an architect, building a practice and succeeding. We all know that becoming an architect and practicing architecture at the highest level is super hard. How much harder is it for people of color? I'd like to know their success story and I am sure that other minorities would too.
