In 1966, the West Virginia town of Point Pleasant had multiple witnesses and encounters with this creature that had wings and red eyes. This was the beginning of Mothman, which became a local urban legend. Its appearances ultimately foreshadowed the collapse of the Silver Bridge in the Ohio River in 1967.
