I’ve been listening to John for over eight years, going back to when he was in California around the Marin County area. What I enjoy most about his show is the style, it feels like things you’d hear sitting around with buddies, going back and forth and talking through real topics without pretense. John does a great job weaving in insights and anecdotes from his past experiences to where he is today. I appreciate that he doesn’t sugarcoat his views. The world we live in is cutthroat, and he leans into that reality instead of dancing around it. Above all, his grit and grind haven’t changed. The same drive and edge that hooked me years ago are still there today. Overall, it’s a great show if you’re looking for honest, direct, and colorful takes. Keep it going Middlekauff!

Best football sports pod out there! My only request is to have guy on more regularly. John’s and Guy’s chemistry is incredible and they bounce off each other very well. Two very different approaches that fit together like PB&J

John has become very repetitive over the years. Says a lot of the same things over and over. Absolutely glazes the 49ers and slobs all over Kyle Shanahan’s knob.

This should be a 5 star review but had to knock a point for crazy amounts of ads (yes I realize I can fast forward) as well as a picky nit…please stop with the gulping, drinking, mouth and throat noises while on mic. It’s brutal to listen to and shocked to hear because you’re an old radio guy. Where’s the cough button in these moments?

Never heard a supposed football guy talk more about the cold. Literally every pod. 30-40 degree weather is not cold, stop it. Making CA natives sound even softer than they are.

I wish Colin would cycle John in more often on the main Herd show. I can listen to John all day. His takes and delivery is so genuine and always on point.

Nothing unique and perspective feels based on biases and not from actual games. Master of the clickbait era but much better choices out there.

I'm a long time listener to three and out and I really enjoyed today's college football review pod. I thought the addition of Jackson worked really well.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a great show, I love it, but just a little too many ads.

Have listened for probably three or four years at this point. The commercials are just absurd. No content until the seven minute mark. And it’s just become super repetitive. With the same talking points and same dialogue. And I get money is an important factor but good god enough money talk

No content until 6+ minutes in seems excessive. Longer than Colin or many other pods

Love the 3 and out pod, but am constantly getting too many other pod suggestions. The go low disguised as 3 and out are bothering me I subscribed to 3 and out if I want a golf pod I will subscribe to go low. I’ve already unsubscribed to Colin’s main feed due to the same issue. Keep this to football.

John does a great job of telling you like it is. He acts and talks like a normal person which if refreshing in todays toxic fake people media market. Feel like I’m sitting back with a bro having a beer just shooting the breeze combined with knowledge of personnel. Please don’t ever become like the rest of the media! That’s why we’re here

He basically repeats them same things over and over. All he talks about are the big names and skill positions. Plenty of pods do that. Give me some value. Also just su*ks off Collin twice an episode. Insane 5 minute commercials every 15 mins

Started listening regularly a couple years before John joined the volume around 2020 and haven’t missed many episodes. Popularity has certainly grown recently. For new subscribers here’s some things to know. He knows what he’s talking about regarding football and sticks to his takes. What’s always been my favorite thing about the show is he does “mailbag questions”. These are DMs sent to him that can make him vulnerable and these questions aren’t just from friends or big names they can come from anyone. The fact he still does this given his increased popularity is awesome. Shows he cares about the consumer (a.k.a. the people paying his bills). He’s a football/golf guy who loves to gamble so he talks a lot about the business side of football. Being a former scout he has a lot of front office opinions. Output has decreased slightly in last year in regard to podcasts. Overall great podcast geared towards the ages of men/women (more so men) between the ages of 18-50. Would highly recommend giving it a try if you like football. You’ll find out quickly if it’s for you or not.

Podcast is a true skill and John has grown a ton. Info and opinions are always strong. Very knowledgeable. I now listen to nearly every show.

Really quality podcast. Information rich, insightful takes, genuine approach. I can see why Colin signed him to the volume. Keep up the good work John.

Middlemen

John, I’ve been listening to you since 2018 or so and have enjoyed your podcast for the most part. But the fact that you have to bring up money in virtually every single aspect of the podcast is starting to get to me. I get it money makes the world go round. But how many times do I have to hear the phrase “he’s not a good HC, but he’s an elite coordinator. And theirs no problem with that, top coordinators make 3, 4, 5 million dollars.” It’s almost every episode at this point….

This guy thinks Allard from Penn State is a first round pick?? No wonder he got fired as a scout!

It’s lame that we, viewers and consumers of the NFL have to listen to his horrible announcing. And that’s he’s part owner of a team. Ridiculous and totally capitulation. Lame on all fronts.

I’ve been noticing you’re starting to sound a lot like Colin. That is not a compliment, but I’ll still give you five stars.

I know you gotta make a living but dude.. It's 1:1 takes versus ads. Yes, I realize I can fast-forward but I find myself fast forwarding more than listening. I've listened to you for years but I am moving on.

You were rattling off places that listen to the pod: add Vietnam to the list. Your pod is a lifeline for football fans. Now, why do we get this other stuff we don’t ask for?

Great insight on the game of football, if you can make it through the mindless and endless advertising reads. Seriously the ratio of ads to actual content here are out of whack.

To avoid crazy amounts of commercials and sponsored stuff. Great content but the commercials are just insane.

Dont mind some advertising for good content but the amount of commercials in a typical episode is horrifying. Content is normally good similar (sometimes too similar) to cowherd’s pod. If you handle nonstop ads this pod might be for you.

He has some good points, but it’s h possible to listen to when the podcast literally starts with 8 minutes of ads.

I’ve been listening to Cowherd as my main sports show/pod for over a decade. Switched to John. Love it, keep up the good work (Colin is way too big of an Aaron Rogers Hater)

When this dude can stick to sports he’s good . When he’s on with Colin he knows to keep it to sports . But every episode on his own he just has to bring his political thoughts. I listen to sports to NOT listen to political radio. He said he had to leave the Bay Area to stop being angry all the time . You still are man. Let it go . Talk about football. Sheesh

But, despite the insights and perspective, the show has a primarily negative tone. Very cynical and the cussing doesn’t help. I would suggest taking cues from Cowherd and bring the facts without the sarcasm and cussing…dive deeper into player eval and the GM lense.

I live the content, but please fix your saliva, drinking and other gross sounds right in my ear. Please, please find a way to fix this, do you listen to your own pod? Please do and you will lot be happy. Besides that it’s a great pod.

Not a bad podcast, but can this man go one podcast without mentioning bill parcells? Makes a lot of very obvious statements and the first 10% of the podcast are entirely ads

Being a former scout/front office personnel gives John a great perspective on how teams operate and run their business. He’s worked for one of the best. He’s very concise and confident in his answers and takes. He has great guests and puts out a lot of content without being repetitive. I wish he could fill in for Colin Cowherd’s when he takes time off.

I’ll start with that actual content is great. John has a unique perspective on the NFL But minus one star for 12-15 minutes of ads and live reads during the show. This is part of what killed the Sports Talk Radio universe. I understand some, but they’re overdoing it And learn to pronounce “fugazi”, watch Donnie Brasco again, the Sopranos, or even ask Italian.

Terrific podcast to add to your NFL podcast playlist. Short, sweet, to the point. Very knowledgeable with great takes. Must listen!

Brock Purdy has a better rating by over 10 points more yards and crushed the Cowboys head to head and you want to say Dak solidified being MVP after beating the Eagles? What planet are you living on? Please give more intelligent takes. Brock Purdy should be MVP or has just as much of a case as Dak for MVP, please back up what you say with numbers not “he has been in the league longer” huh?
