The brilliance of friendship
Love this podcast! The two host have infectious chemistry and impeccable taste! I find myself whispering “interpolation” more and more I can’t recommend this show enough!

Spanish self-deportation ad? Really?
The Kristi noem self-deportation ad that ran before my episode really put a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe that’s Hartbeat’s fault more than the show but I unsubscribed anyway. #chingalamigra

Entertaining and thorough
I look forward to the new episode each week. Their deep dives into the vast world of popular music are illuminating, delightful, and reinforce how much we are all moved by the power of a great song.

History of your favorite songs
Love hearing the history of songs that have meant a lot to me. Very interesting.

I didn’t know how much I needed this!
Someone sent me the ATCQ “Scenario” episode and I was hooked. Immediately searched for a De La episode and I found one! That’s when I knew I was onto something special…I don’t trust people who love Tribe but don’t know De La (my faves of Native Tongues). Then I went digging and found Pharcyde and Depeche and New Order and Nirvana and MISSY and and and…do they know me?? I love the details of the layers, the samples, the isolated investigation of the stems and vocals, and then the musical historical/situational context. I’m not a musician but I understand lots of it and the stuff I don’t, you explain! Thank you! It makes me so happy!
Not that you asked, but here are some ideas for future episodes: Fugees’ “Vocab”, Pixies (anything but preferably from Kim Deal’s era), Beastie Boys (from Paul’s Boutique!), Modest Mouse (not Float On), James Blake (dealer’s choice)

A music nerd's dream
I went for a deep dive, looking for a new podcast and found this. Never heard of it. But, I started geeking out and sending to my fellow djs, musicians and music lovers. As a Gen X guitar player, drummer and overall person obsessed with the process of how music is made, I'm in heaven. I have gone back and started with the first episode.

Music geek joy
I love music- if I could I’d have music playing at all times at all hours.
I love the depths of research they do and the way they are able to use the stems to break down the song into its parts and you fall in love with the song all over again.
One request: can you do digable planets Rebirth of Slick.

Never disappoints
This is one of my favorite podcasts. I love knowing the history of a song and the “lineage” of a specific sample. This podcast gives me that and more. I love hearing the stems of some of my favorite songs and will listen to those episodes multiple times. It has also introduced me to some music I might not have encountered otherwise. My only critique is that I would love more stems. They’re little dopamine hits for me and it is so hard to wait for them in the episode!

Horrible!
Absolutely horrible production, multiple times commercials cutting in midsentence. So much misinformation in these episodes!

My favorite podcast!
The amount of research, care, joy they infuse into each of their episodes doesn't just feed my intellectual mind, but makes my day a little brighter.

Found and hooked!
I came across One Song and I’m hooked! It’s my go to podcast on my drive to work. It’s made me go back and find so many songs that I loved.
May I suggest Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap? One of my all time favorites! Just love the drive and build to crescendo.

Very interesting, but…
Great podcast! However, one of you (and you know who you are) is a big loud mouth, always talking about his old DJ days and sounding like a boomer. Think of the listener and not yourself, PLEASE! Love ya! I’m still learning!

Not enough music
Love these guys but they never play nearly enough of the songs and stems. As it has gone along they play less music and it's more about their banter. I've heard enough banter for two lifetimes, play the examples and samples longer. It's frustrating to listen to.

Soothing sounds with friends I’ve never met!
The soothing sounds of songs I love plus the brilliant people who made them and two funny & talented musicians who love what they do make my life better 🥰 Thank you !!! Ps.. would Masquerade from George Benson be a candidate for an episode?

Amazing podcast💖
As a young person trying to learn about all the different aspects of music I really truly enjoy this podcast. Many artists who were mentioned on the show even if only for a short clip of a song are now seen abundantly throughout my playlist! (For example: Rufus, were Chaka khan got her start) It’s really cool to be able to learn about the artists and their careers and then hear the song piece by piece with all the separated instruments and vocals. Also Diallo and LUXXURY have amazing personalities and are very charming. I love hearing their little stories here and there about Diallo’s DJ-ing or LUXXURY’s songwriting. Overall one of my all time favorite podcasts. ❤️

More music less talking
This is such a great awesome concept. 8/10 they hit it out of the park. But 2/10 they spend so much time talking about other topics including themselves. Just want to hear the stems so bad. Sometimes there's only 10-15 minutes of stems. Please more stems! Pretty please.

Learn, Laugh, Love!
As a former new wave, post-punk and dance club DJ, this show gets me every time. This intersection of culture, history and music is where I wanna hang out. Diallo’s ridiculous rap recall, Luxxury’s technical musical knowledge and the obvious love of music, carried by their sense of humor makes this my favorite pod.

Best podcast ever!
Ok, so I have been going through it the past few years to say the least. And I got so depressed that the world lost ALL its color (but most importantly, Music did). It started to just sound like straight up white noise. But the “One Song” podcast came to me at JUST the right time. Listening to the show has reignited the childlike wonder I used to have for sound, and I am so grateful to you guys for that. I am just starting to pick up the pieces in my life right now, and “One Song” has allowed me to FEEL music again (not just hear it), and made me curious and thankful for all these dope (and often under-appreciated) people who added beauty to our world through sound. So from the bottom of my heart, I wanna say thank you Luxxury & Diallo for doing what you do. You guys are awesome. I know good reviews help keep the show going, so I couldn’t not write something, considering how much value the show has added to my life over this year. I know it’s sappy, but what I said is 100% real. Thank you guys 🤙

Brilliant. These 2 gentleman love music just as deeply as you do, and based upon their content, they spend as much time needing out as we wish we could! They know music, they know the music.., they know the culture and they have the most humble open minds and a very unique ability to communicate clearly from the most basic listener to the most educated! They both have personalities that jump through your earphones and their intelligence and charm will draw you in as it has me! I am obviously smitten.., but the insight they offer into your favorite music and timeless cultural zeitgeists has not only broadened (sp) my understanding of music, but reacquainted me with favorites from my youth

Learn a lot!
The background and the breakdowns of the music is great. I learn so much with every episode and definitely gain a greater appreciation for the songs and artists.

Appreciate your show. However…..
Really enjoy your show. Both of you are huge music fans, which I like. And I enjoy the excitement, knowledge, and humor you bring to every show. However…. I feel, like many music fans that are a part of hip hop’s first and second generation, you seem to believe that the entirety of popular music is all leading up to it’s artistic peak, which is rap music. Rap is like every genre before it, it’ll reach a zenith, which I personally think it’s already done, then it’ll slowly die off and eventually get replaced by some other genre. It’s not the end all, be all of popular music. But I continue to listen and learn from your show and look forward to more shows in the future.
One more note, in the Supremes episode Luxury said Berry Gordy married Diana Ross. In fact, they had a child together but they never married and never even presented in public as a couple.

So good
These guys are so knowledgeable and nerdy yet still fun to listen to. There are so many mediocre music podcasts out there - do yourself a favor and listen to this one instead.

That episode on Jane’s Addiction was the best. That band shaped me, to this day those songs transport me to another place.

Amazing Show!
This show is a very fun and educational listen! Diallo and Luxxury are both incredibly knowledgeable. They have awesome chemistry and make it feel like you’re there hanging with them as they do deep dives on the songs. This show has definitely changed the way I listen to music, and has made me appreciate songs and styles that I have not considered as much in the past. Great work gentlemen, keep them coming! I wish there were a higher rating than 5 stars!

Smart yet Comfy
The hosts are funny, cool, and create an “all are welcome” attitude for music and listeners. Informal yet reverent, rigorous without feeling overly structured. I love this show!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Runnin ep. Thank you for the deep dive into the samples and the unpredictable world of music publishing. Keep up the great work!

The BEST songs
So many of my favorite songs and artists keep coming on this podcast. It’s so interesting and educational to hear the songs broken down into stems, and to learn about all the talented people involved in making the magic brew of these songs. I only wish that at the end, we would hear the final product. So much fantastic music!

I love it!!
This is my absolute favorite podcast these days! I discovered it through the Sam Sanders podcast I think and I’ve been listening since then. Listening to you guys talk about some of my favorite songs and some songs that I wasn’t familiar with has been the best thing for my mental health. You’re really helping me get through this awful time. I think I’m a little bit older than you guys, but we seem to have a lot of the same taste in music and I’ve been putting together a playlist for a big upcoming birthday and it’s really inspired by one song. So thank you so much!

Diallo, I know your song!
The song you are trying to figure out is David Sanborn’s “Chicago Song.” From the 1987 album “A Change Of Heart.”

The “Jane Says” intro
I’ve been a fan for a while, but what pushed me to actually rate and review was the Jane Says interpolation (god I hope I used that term right) on the Jane’s Addition episode. Thanks for the stems and gems!

Awesome show
The Jane’s Addiction podcast was surprisingly emotional! I lost my mother 4 years ago and could definitely relate to Diallo’s emotions during this pod. Excellent show.

My favorite podcast right now!
Love these podcasts! In the concert podcast for 2025 I think one musical influence to electronic that I have not heard about yet is The KLF! Would love to hear an episode on The White Room album/Last Train to Transcentral. I think the KLF really influenced music especially in the 2000s.
Can’t wait for the next podcast!

Now THIS is a podcast
I often don’t listen to podcasts because they can be too heady, the hosts can be annoying, and the content is often meh. One Song is none of those! Each episode is a gem. I’m here for how nerdy and excited Diallo and Luxxury get about audio production, music, beats, etc. It’s an excellent production that I hope sticks around for a while.

Best Music Podcast!
I don’t really write reviews but I wanted to show my support. As a huge lover of all music decades and genres, this podcast is amazing! I love being able to connect some of my favorite songs and artists together and I always learn something new. I find the banter between the two of them endearing and you can tell there is a lot of respect and a genuine friendship between the hosts. The special guests have also been a nice bonus to an already great show. Keep up the great work guys!

Where has this podcast been all my life?!?!?!
As a lifelong recovering college DJ, I have been a music nerd to a level that I can only assume has been profoundly annoying to everyone around me. I recently embarrassed my husband on a walking tour of Manchester UK by knowing all the answers to the music trivia questions the guide asked the group. I then dragged him to the small seaside town of Portishead because Portishead, where I met a barmaid who grew up with Geoff Barrow, and peppered her with questions. I recount these stories within the context that I am decades beyond adolescence, when this type of behavior is generally exhibited. Suffice it to say, I am euphorically bingeing the 70+ episodes already produced, having just learned of this podcast from that linchpin of Western Civilization, Sam Sanders, who had the hosts on his new show. It is a joy and sometimes moving to be reminded how very much music means to me, and reminisce about my lifelong passion. Thanks, guys!

I really tried but I just can’t…
The constant onslaught of overhyped enthusiasm combined with “shouting out” of _every_ single_person_ who is ever mentioned on the show (“Shout out to the homeless guy we just watched walk by as we’re recording this!”) is just tedious. Makes the whole thing kind of insufferable.

Fun way to learn about songs
Such a cool way to listen to the how the songs were made! I could listen to the I’m Every Woman episode on repeat.

Perfect Music Nerd Podcast
My favorite part of each episode is hearing the stems. Would love to hear longer snippets of the vocal stems but that’s a very minor complaint
