This is part two of a multi-series episode recorded on-site at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. In this episode, we sit down with Gene Sievers, who is the Site Manager at Y-12 National Security Complex and retired Navy Captain. The Y-12 National Security Complex, located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is a site that plays a crucial role in national security. It has a rich history dating back to the Manhattan Project and continues to be a center of excellence for enriched uranium production. Y-12 serves three main missions: maintaining a safe and effective stockpile for nuclear weapon secondaries, global non-proliferation efforts, and providing feedstock for Naval Reactors. The site is undergoing rejuvenation and modernization to meet increased production demands and clean up the legacy from the Cold War. Y-12 is a vital part of the nuclear triad, ensuring a credible nuclear deterrent.
