In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and the Anibaes review episodes nineteen through twenty-one of Fruits Basket (2019). In episode 19, the interpretation of the Sohma’s acceptance, or lack thereof, of Ritsu’s identity differs amongst the ladies. Ritsu’s gift of books about fruit as opposed to actual fruit for Tohru also banana splits the ladies’ (mainly Giana’s) opinions. The non-humor of Mitsuru’s drastic measures due to Shigure’s antics gets a heavy helping of hot fudge. In episode 20, Hiro Sohma gets on EVERYBODY’S last nerve. Giana mistakes a Twilight quote for some old, fancy poem. While this episode is centered more on Hiro Sohma, Chika points out that it brings more to light about Kisa’s trauma and unsettling relationship with her mother. In episode 21, The expectations versus reality of Hanajima’s home gives everyone a good laugh.
