For the second straight night, the New York Mets got what they needed on the mound from their starter. And behind six home runs, they defeated the Atlanta Braves 9-2
Clay Holmes gave the Mets a very good start of 6.1 IP, marking the second straight night the Mets got a start of at least six innings. .
The offense gave Holmes the backup that he needed. It was a multi-homer night for both Mark Vientos and Jeff McNeil, with Pete Alonso and Starling Marte each adding a homer as well.
Speaking of Marte, he was at the center of a defensive masterclass from New York tonight. After the Mets took a 3-0 in the 3rd, the Braves were threaten a quick response but Marte threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
In a place that has given the Mets fits, they now are setup up to go for a series sweep of the Braves and send David Peterson to the mound in order to get the job done.
