Juan Soto left the game with an injury and the Mets bats were quiet in a 7-1 loss in the second game of the series with the Padres.
Sean Manaea got the start for New York and put together his most impressive start since returning from injury, allowing just one earned run over five innings. He appeared to lobby for a sixth inning, after retiring 12 straight Padre hitters but an elevated pitch count saw him leave the game.
The 5th inning is probably the moment the Mets want back from this one, as they loaded the bases with nobody out trailing 1-0. However, they were only able to scratch one run across via a sac-fly.
Jose Butto came on in relief and was responsible for the game getting out of control, seeing five runs come across over his 1.2 innings of work.
The Mets will look to avoid getting swept tomorrow when Clay Holmes takes the bump.
