The San Francisco Giants had won the first game in six consecutive series, but nonetheless they had dropped their last two series. Going into Sunday's first-half finale against the Twins, the Giants were at risk of dropping their third straight series after winning the opening game. It would've been a really tough blow that would've pushed the SF Giants to five games under .500 and four games back in the wild card standings.

But Blake Snell and Mike Yastrzesmksi had other ideas. Snell was perfect into the seventh in what was easily his best outing as a Giant. Yastrzemski was 3-for-3 with two doubles and triple, plus a walk, in the dramatic, walk-off 3-2 win. It was the SF Giants' ninth walk-off win of the season, tied for the most in the major leagues. The Giants enter the break at 47-50 and three games back in the wild card standings.

Camilo Doval was staked to a 2-0 lead as he entered to close out the first half on a high note. It's been a rocky first half for Doval, and unfortunately his issues persisted. Doval walked the leadoff hitter and allowed two doubles, resulting in a tie game. Giants manager Bob Melvin lifted Doval in favor of Ryan Walker, who stranded the go-ahead run on second with two outs on two pitches. Fittingly, right at the break (which is a time for reflection), it appears that Walker may be in line to, at least temporarily, take over as the SF Giants' closer given his consistent dominant and Doval's consistent struggles.
